nice area, nice scenery. bathrooms need a place to put your gear while you shower. At night bathrooms need an outside light. do not tent camp in site F1, described on the campgrounds website as "old barn favorite " it's pad is on a hillside. When I complained they we're very accommodating and switched me. restaurant was good, service was freindly. Friday night it was you're typical campground noise till 11:00 or so, Saturday night was dead silent by 10:30. go figure. the roads were filled with water runoff induced ruts making some areas treacherous for low riding cars such as mine. I later found out why, they had 7 inches of rain the week before. overall a decent if not average campground.

Expensive, needs updating to bathrooms but right next to Root River trail. Probably won't stay here again do to price.

The campground is set up with three tiers. The restroom and showers are only available on the lower tier making for a lot of walking up and down hills. The barn and pool are at the very top which is a hike. Our site on the middle tier was very narrow. I would upgrade to a sewer site. Those are located on the lower level and seemed to be a little wider. The restroom/shower house needs work. They were cleaned everyday but they are in poor repair. The pool also was clean but the was signs of obvious wear. The facilities did not warrant the additional per day fees that are charged. During our stay there was construction every day. There were bulldozers and large machinery running from early morning till dusk. They are adding sites but i would suggest shaping up the current facilities before adding on. That being said it's location gives you plenty of recreational opportunities. The golf course was in decent shape and is very scenic. I would definitely suggest taking a cart, The green to tees distance is significant. The canpground is located next to the bike trails which are very nice and there are rentals available on site. The rental shack's hours are not optimal, she gets there when she can and leaves when it's slow. We rented canoes from town and while not cheap the Root River was a nice paddle with enough calm rapids areas to keep it interesting. It does get quite shallow in areas. The last thing I will mention is the lack of a camp store. If you forget or run out of anything you will be running to town, We will probably not go back. the dated facilities, unwarranted fees, and small sites are not worth it.

Its been 15 years since I went here with my family and we just went back this past weekend. The prices had more than doubled in that time, however, the sites got smaller and more packed in and the showers and bathrooms were the same as I remembered from 15-20 years ago. I asked well in advance to have the site next to my parents and we basically got laughed at. The lady sent the person between us an "email" to see if we could switch... bunch of b.s. if you asked me. The bike trails are still so much fun, so that was the one redeeming quality. Oh and did I mention the prices for tubes went up significantly, you have to pay in the very scarce showers, and they only have one dump station (no sewer hook ups for the steep price) and that dump station is poorly located. I would say find a different place to stay!

Make time to go early and experience Lanesboro before heading tothe Old Barn resort for a unforgettable meal. Prime rib is always wonderful!

It has been awhile since our last visit, but whenever we went here, it was a good time for parent and kids with plenty to do and room to roam. Easy access and exit and just a safe, family orientated campground.

For almost $50 per night for a site, I would spend my money elsewhere. Bathrooms were in terrible condition -- hairballs, overflowing shower drains into the shower stalls, no soap for washing hands -- gross! Site was not mowed, so our feet were soaked everyday from the long wet grass. Difficult to conveniently access the bathrooms from our site. I would not recommend this place.

We stayed here as a family in 2009. Since we were a family of 7 we were able to rent 1 room on the first floor of the barn. We liked the bunk beds and the fact that we could store food in the fridge for breakfast. We were also very close to the shower room, in fact right across the hall. all of the people who are camping use that shower room too and right outside the doore is a small playground for kids. Our kids loved the swimming pool which is indoors. At night we could hear the frogs down by the river...that was really neat. I have checked into staying here again, but the rates have seemed to sky rocket and we are paying a lot per person , which is more expensive than paying for a hotel room. Old Barn Resort was close wnough for us to go over to Lanesboro and Harmony. We were pleased with our stay, but will probably not return do to the high cost.

When I have traveled outside the U.S. solo, I've liked staying at hostels. Here in the U.S. solo travelers more often get stuck paying for the invisible travel mate because a room is a room is a room. Anyway, hostels sometimes supply camaraderie, too. However, MN has all of about 3 hostels I know of, and one of them is at the Old Barn Resort, that also hosts camping, golf, and has the restaurant and bar in the barn. I have to agree with the others the showers at this place are god-awful (though the water pressure and temp are fine). Apparently, the owner has invested in the golf course and swimming pool instead of the bath facilities. The bath facilities are shared by hostelers and campers, and I would not want to stay there when the place is full. I saw the young woman who cleans the hostel early morning and I don't think it's her fault. It would be hard to get the bathroom facilities in shape no matter how hard you cleaned. In fact, the hostel room I stayed in was itself clean. The outside door was not locked at night though and I don't know if there was an attendant. There was a deadbolt lock on the room door; still, hostels should have attendants, just like motels do.About the restaurant service I write contrary to the other reviewer. The cook, whom I'd talked to by phone early morning, because it's apparently up to her to answer and take reservations, too, was still cooking at supper time. And, she was good at what she had to work with, and fast! The food was served piping hot. The bartender/waitperson was the only other staff there, and she was serving drinks and food, plus registering guests and fielding questions, all of which kept her very busy. Her jokes to customers were slightly edgy, but clever. One guy of seven people at a table was rudely calling to her across the room whilst she was busy. But she wasn't dawdling. And, while it took some time between being seated and ordering (though they had two rounds of drinks in between) after that table of seven ordered their meals, they got their food quickly. If that place had been any busier, I'd say the problem was not the employees but the management. Two staffers shouldn't have to handle all those functions and activities.

We stay at the Old Barn every year, booking reservations well in advance and for the most part we have enjoyed our stay - HOWEVER..as another reviewer has inferred (see "Oh My God") the resort seems almost indifferent when it comes to enforcing the QUIET HOURS rules. We stayed there this weekend and had a party of about 15 female drunks cackle LOUDLY into the wee hours ( 1 am) while their neighbors tried to sleep ! Unacceptable. The food at the lodge is "ok" - the service ? In a word, sucks. people crowd into the bar area around suppertime and stand....waiting....and waiting......until the surly (female) bartender gives you the lowdown on just whats what. Sigh...........The showers are TERRIBLE - since we have been staying there ( over 10 years) I have YET to see them upgrade the shower/toilet buildings - Unacceptable. If you can stay elsewhere.. I'd say "yeah" you may do better. if you HAVE to stay here...well....good luck. Sorry.

Arrived Friday night about 5. Three fifthwheels in one party behind us and 2 campers in one party across the road. The PARTY started at 8, all the children under 10 were up at 1AM, and the adults finally went inside about 4AM. And the front desk said quiet hours begin at 10pm. I did not ask if the rules were enforced. All well and good if it is enforced. Very loud when the on site bar let out at 1AM.They did refund the second night we had booked.New rule to self, if there is an on site bar...run away quickly.
