Done this tour about 5 times in my life , never has changed . It's a very short tour but it's worth seeing . It's complete with free samples at the end , so it's worth taking

Beautiful grounds. Fun and educational tour. Awesome beer and 1919 root beer! Cute gift shop, a little over priced but you expect that from places like this. Fun events!

Enjoyed the Historical Background of this Iconic Minnesota Brewery. Beautiful grounds to meander and an interesting tour of the old brewery, with a wonderful beer tasting at the end of the tour. Great way to spend a afternoon in the country!

plenty of history here, nice grounds, lots of good beer. pretty much something for everybody. two things to note: 1) in the winter if you are not on a tour, you don't get to sample. 2) because of archaic MN liquor laws, they cannot fill growlers. so I would recommend arriving 2 hours before the tour you are planning on taking and get signed up (in the museum part). then go shopping or wander around. I have been here in the summer as well and it is busier then. but they also have nice gardens, etc.

Every time we visit the brewery everyone is polite, engaged, and gives outstanding customer service. The buildings are well kept and the grounds are remarkable. This is a true gem that focuses on quality instead of quantity! The Marti Family should be proud of experience they have created.

get there early on a saturday to buy tickets ahead of time- they sell out early! now there is a nice beer garden on saturdays too

We drove down on a Saturday and arrived around 1:30. There were a few spots left for the tour at 3, but otherwise sold out. They have a small beer garden to sample some beers but the main bar in the visitors center is reserved for tour members. This place is kind of small and doesn't seem ready to handle the crowds they get on the weekends. Tours are $3, beers at the beer garden are $4. Be prepared to either come early to get a tour time, and stroll the grounds or go see Herman the German while you wait for your tour to start. Also they have a neat museum, but it closes every other half hour for the tour.

We were there the day after Labor Day so the tours quit running Labor Day. Romona and Gary say lots of guests complain that they don't continue longer in the year. Now is the time for the leaves turning so I would think New Ulm is still a vacationing destination.

I was impressed by the history and the setting of the brewery. Our tour guide was great. Laid-back but informative. Awesome tasting downstairs at the end of the tour! We enjoyed strolling through the gardens afterward.

During the summer months on Sundays Schell's had a band perform in their park. It was well attended by local people and those visiting the wonderful community of New Ulm. The people were friendly, the drinks were great and the atmosphere relaxed. Way to go August Shell Brewery/

We went to this brewery and musuem. It was very imformative and the grounds was beautiful. We then sampled some of the beer that was still being made there after 150 years. This is a must see.

This story begins with the historic "Grain Belt" beer billboard that towers over a Minneapolis thoroughfare as it crosses the Mississippi. My friend explained that Grain Belt used to be the Twin Cities local "working man's" beer but the company was now out of business. The sign was "historical," however, and it would probably stay up forever.Fast forward a couple of years. I'm back in the "Cities" and see Grain Belt beer in the stores. What gives, I ask. "Oh" said my friend, "Some little brewery down state bought the recipe and the rights. It's more popular now than it ever was." Having by this time consumed several 6 packs of the stuff, I was I fan. I fired up the iPad and did some research. The August Schell Brewery is the second oldest brewery in the US. Only Yuengling is older. It harkens back to a time when all breweries were "micro" and all beer was "craft" beer. The Grain Belt beer they make is a standard macro-lager, heavy with corn and rice malts. The lesser known August Schell labels are where the gold is. Small, seasonal batches of any and every style imaginable. If you're a beer drinker put this on your bucket list. The tasting room is friendly and generous. On a gorgeous, family friendly campus, the Schell Brewery is a great way to spend an afternoon.

Spent a couple of hours at the August Schell Brewery in New Ulm, MN. What a nice location. It was right next to the Brewery and the gardens around the Schell home. There were about 75 people there sitting at tables in the shade drinking beer, draft root beer, eating bread and cheese, and listening to an old polka band leader play on his button box concertina and singing. Lots of families were there and it felt very European. Many people were visiting the brewery and shop, but the bier garten was shady and quiet. Some of the locals had brought their own lawn chairs for better comfort with a longer stay. Kudos to Schells. Keep it up.

this was a cool tour. we got to see them bottle the beer and go to the tap room and if you drink you get sample some the different beers. if you don't drink or you have underage people they do have root beer that they also make and bottle there.

We didn't go inside, but the small gardens outside the house are open even after the building is closed and are just beautiful. Romantic nooks everywhere, tinkling water features and wonderfully accented flower borders make this place a huge gem! Keep an eye out for the peacocks eating out of the large flower pots.
