I play golf once a week and play everywhere in the Twin Cities, Hudson and northern Wisconsin. I play Oak Marsh every other year when either I am invited by friends or for a charity outing. I don't play it because it is a very pedestrian type of course. it feel like it was designed by a muni architect. Now, depending on what you want to spend on regardinggolf also makes a difference. For me, i would rather skip playing one round a week and use the money for Stoneridge, Troy Burne or Rush Creek.
I recently had the opportunity to play Oak Marsh in Oakdale, MN. There was a group of 12 or so of us. Unfortunately, it rained a significant amount the night before our outing. The course was very soggy. There were no restrictions on the use of carts, so we skidded our way around the course. Nearly everywhere we drove and walked, standing water was visible. My impression was that the par 5 holes were short and the par 4 holes were long. The par 3 holes were mixed. Regardless of the course conditions, the group had a good time. I was in the lead group. We started out slow, but picked up the pace as we adjusted to the conditions. The Saturday we played was sunny with a mild temperature. My group finished a couple of holes ahead of the group behind us. The second group finished a couple of holes ahead of the group behind them.As we waited for the other groups from our event, we spent time with Deb in the bar. What a delight. She was friendly and efficient. the beers were varied, consisting of the "standards" plus some craft beers. I don't get to play golf as much as I would like to, but I must say that Oak Marsh was fun. I hope that we didn't cause any damage playing in such wet conditions. My hat is tipped to the team at Oak Marsh.
