It was a good hotel but was very far from the city center. It take around 30 mins to the city center. also there were no refrigerator in the room.
I came her to hike the trails and was really astonished at the natural beauty this park possesses. Rolling hills with perfect ponds and lakes tucked in. One of the cooler things about this park is on a lot of the shorelines there are Ghost Trees. Basicall they are shock white and sitting in the water. They say they die when the water levels rise and this is a park filled with them. The Hiking Club trail had one massive hill on it that was as big as any I have hiked up in MN. Really an amazing park any time of year but as the trees start to change; as they were up there when I went, this place is especially great in Autumn.
Short drive from Fargo, Fergus Falls, Detroit Lakes, nice picnic areas, beaches, horseback and hiking trails. Worth the drive and bring your camera!
There is something about Maplewood that makes everything feel right. Especially, in the autumn. Besides forests of Maple Trees, Maplewood State Park is abundant with Sumac, which turns vivid red in the autumn. Trails, camping and one of the best lakes in Minnesota (that's saying a lot being there are over 10,000 of them), Lake Lida, are all draws to spend a day or weekend roaming the trails of Maplewood.
This park may be close to home for me but it takes me a million miles away. Miles of trails to hike. Climb Halloway Hill in the fall and look at the beautiful colors around Lake Lida. My family and I visit year round whether camping, hiking, swimming, geocaching, snowshoeing it is always a good time. Quiet, back to nature!!
We spent the morning running the Run Wild 7K through, one of the toughest races we have ever run, as we are used to the flat terrain of Moorhead. After the race we had the opportunity to spend some time in the park before heading home. We enjoyed chilling by the lake, seeing Minnesota’s beauty in person, and even glimpsed a few species of MN wildlife. We were visited by the state bird just before we were about to leave. The park rangers were polite and helpful making our visit even more amazing
So I live in Fargo and this state park is only an hour away which is very nice for a day trip. The trails were fairly well maintained, but a bit muddy this time of year. I very much was impressed with all of the maps around that kept me from getting lost. I also will be bringing my mountain bike next time. The roads look like fun!-$5/vehicle-Make sure you bring bug spray!!! The ticks and mosquitoes are awful. -Also bring plenty of water, there's limited water stations.
The camp host yelled at our 8 year old for picking up twigs (and by twigs I mean fallen pieces of wood less than four inches) at OUR specific camp site stating, "You can't forage for wood! You need to let it die naturally." Then the ranger said we made too much noise in the middle of the night. We tried to explain that two racoons got into a fight outside out tent (scaring the crap out of our kids) and that is where the noise came from (it sounded like people screaming) but he rolled his eyes and acted as if we were lying. I will stick to other campgrounds with more friendly staff from now on.
Just attended a wedding in the park. Perfect facilites- covered gathering space, clean bathrooms, kitchen area, and plenty of parking. Did I mention the fall leaves? Breathtaking!
I love driving through Maplewood State Park in the Fall --- the Maple trees are spectacular. There are great trails for horses and in the winter for snowmobiles. It has very nice campgrounds.
This is the place to be for walks and photography of Fall Color.
This park has nice lakes with good fishing, wildlife, hiking trails and clean campsites.
Beautiful Fall Colors, Good Camping and Hicking Spot
This state park is beautiful in the fall. Take a drive through and see all the pretty maple trees turn red, orange and yellow. Check out the trail that leads up to the top of a hill, amazing views of the whole park.
If you like hiking you will love this park. If you dont want to get out of the car, drive on hwy 108 past the park in the fall it is great drive.
