wheels across the prairie museum

The big steam engine caught our attention as we drove through Tracy, and we made a mental note to go back and take some pictures at some point during the weekend. When we returned, the museum was closed so we did our photos, but I noticed several buildings in back that looked interesting.We returned on Sunday and did a full fledged visit at the museum. What a joy! It is hard to know by driving by the wealth of memorabilia and treasures at this place. It was absolutely fascinating and one of the best local museums I have ever been to! If you are interested in history and prairie living, this is a must see. It also doesn't hurt that the owner (is that what they are, if it's a museum?) was present and not only took my daughter on a couple fun little train rides, but spent lots of time talking with us and was a sheer pleasure of a person to meet and chat with. He was incredibly friendly and joyful to be around and it really was a great visit on a historic and a personal level.I HIGHLY recommend stopping by this museum and setting aside more time than you think you might need... there is a lot to see here!! I'm so glad we came back for the full experience.
