All of us senior adults greatly appreciated the up close and personal view of raptors and a knowledgable and enthusiastic volunteer guide. Our visit lasted about 40 minutes, giving us time to see every bird and ask questions. In spite of wired cages, we were able to get great closeups of eagles, hawks, and owls.No admission fee, but donations support worthy cause, where birds are well cared for and returned to wild if possible.
Visited with a 5 year old and took free 30 minute tour. You will see a variety of remakrable birds, all of them receiving medical care from the Center. Others on the tour included adults and teenagers. We all were fascinated. The tour was excellent. This place does great work with injured birds of prey. You'll learn a LOT. Donation of any amount is welcome but there is no pressure to donate. (We did because I really like the work of this place.)Strongly recommended.
Visited with my 17 year old who really loves birds of prey. Volunteers are very knowledgable and you get to see these amazing raptors close up! This organization is dedicated to education and conservation of these majestic creatures! Allow approximately 45 minutes to tour.
Owls, eagles, hawks, vultures, falcons…..The Raptor Center cares for injured raptors of all kinds, and twice a year they have a public event (see the website for locations and dates) where rehabilitated birds are released. Some birds however cannot be sent back to the wild; these are the ones you can visit at the Raptor Center. It is really a marvellous opportunity to get 'up close and personal' with some truly beautiful creatures. When I'm in Minneapolis area (usually twice a year for many years) I almost always stop by to visit. Some of the bird 'ambassadors' like Casper and Nero have been living here for many years, and feel like old friends. Great for all ages. Guides to take visitors through the mews are informative and ready to answer questions of all kinds - this is not just for birders, but everyone. Parking on the street outside the building or in a lot just across the street. A five minute drive from some wonderful shops and restaurants on Como Avenue (I recommend the Colossal Cafe or The Finnish Bistro, but there are others), so you can have a great lunch and a bit of shopping after visiting the birds.Free but donations gratefully accepted.
My husband and I just visited The Raptor Center with our (3) young grandchildren. It was extremely interesting and educational for all of us (age 3 to age 66). What a unique opportunityto learn about these majestic creatures (via close encounter). We look forward to many morevisits and to supporting the great work of the trainers and volunteers at TRC!
They ask for a donation (so no fixed cost for the visit). Seems the tours are done by volunteers who are extremely knowledgeable. They have several bald eagles (injured and either being treated or unable to survive in the wild). We walked outside to see many other raptors they have in cages - *caution* the outside part can be a bit slippery with stairs. We spent about 1 hr visiting the center, which is part of the University of Minnesota.
We went on a Sunday afternoon and in addiction to a tour paid $8 per person for one of the volunteers to take out 3 birds for some education and up close views. The volunteer was very knowledgable about the center and birds. The session was supposed to be 45 minutes but due to everyone's interest and questions lasted just over an hour. They had a good variety of birds available during our visit and definitely something we will go back to and continue to support their good work!
,___,[O.o]/)__)-"--"- - - - - we go here whenever we can. The program is about an hour long and it's so informative and educational. So many different raptors to see ... falcons, owls, eagles and hawks!! Seems to keep the interest of most ages. Worth the trip! Lots of things to look at (eggs, wings, feathers, skulls) and the volunteers have always been very friendly.
This is a fun, and educational experience and a terrific place to see wild raptor. This building is perfect for the venue and kids leave with a long term smile.
Brought the kids here to check out the local bird life. It was great to see the birds up close. Not a lot to do for littler children.
The staff at the Raptor Center are very helpful and friendly. The work they do fixing all the raptors brought into the center is amazing. Many of the staff are volunteers yet they take the time to educate all who come to see the center. Well worth a visit!
This is a very humane facility. They take care of and treat and release or treat and use for educational purposes the animals that they receive. It is very educational for all ages.
My wife and I stopped in for a visit/tour on a Sunday shortly after 12pm. We were greeted with a “What do you want?” by the college-aged male behind the desk. Though I am a young twenty-four years old, I have never been so aghast when walking into a building. It was beyond unwelcoming and after we looked around we felt so unwelcomed, like we were burdening him, that we left before the tour.
An incredible family place to visit - go for a tour - week days of week ends. The lecture is geared to family fun - with plenty of live birds of prey - sculls and feathers. After the tour visit the rehab center exterior cages for injured birds - amazing stories of recovery and re release to nature.
Purchase tickets for the show and tour. It's very educational and entertaining. Make sure to bring your camera as there are many opportunities to "shoot" the birds.
