You are so kind! It sounds like you had a perfect experience at our beloved Landmark Center, and attended one of our free public cultural programs! So glad you enjoyed your visit - do come back and visit one of our two, free museums!
Thank you! Your review is exactly what our mission hopes to accomplish! I am so pleased you "discovered" our gem and that you had a great experience. Please do come back. We offer free guided building tours Thursdays at 11am and Sundays at Noon. No reservation needed. You'll learn about the history, the architecture and even about our infamous Gangster Trials that took place in the 1930's!
It IS a gorgeous wedding venue - thank you for saying so in your very kind review. Our wedding clients love the sweeping 4-story atrium skylight and courtyard for their "fairy-tale" weddings! What you experienced was a "change-over," during which, wedding ceremonies are then transformed into wedding receptions in coordination with our building staff and the catering staff. Precision and efficiency! We are glad you had a great experience!
How wonderful you came to Saint Paul during our historic and fun-filled Winter Carnival! Our "castle" on Rice Park is open year-round for all visitors to enjoy, and we were especially pleased that you had the opportunity to view the display of Ice Palaces of years' past, as well as the Carnival memorabilia display. You'll have to make a return visit during the summer!
Thank you so much for your very kind review! What a lovely holiday gift for us and our building's two museums (I have passed your nice reviews onto them, as well). We are so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Landmark Center - it truly is a jewel in St. Paul...but then, we're biased!Wishing you a very happy 2015,The Staff of Landmark Center
The Landmark Center is a delightful building to tour, to appreciate art, history, book discussions, music gatherings, and special events/parties. Most activities are free and you can find out about them by visiting the website http://www.landmarkcenter.org. At the recent "Once Upon a Time Gala" we stepped back a hundred years ago to the 1913-1919 era. The submitted photos capture attendees reveling in period costumes, capturing memories not to be forgotten. The Landmark Center is a FIVE STAR attraction for those who appreciate history and architecture.
Thank you for your very nice response! I am so pleased you enjoyed your visit to Landmark Center. We do offer free guided tours on Thursdays at 11am and Sundays at 12noon! Our Visitor Services staff was so pleased to welcome you all the way from Hong Kong! We receive visitors from around the world to St. Paul and Landmark Center: glad you were one of them!
Every inch of the interior of this landmark building is exquisite. No wonder they were setting up for a wedding while we were there. Some info on the architecture and history of this building is in the basement, near the restrooms. The Schubert Club (musical instruments) Museum and Wood Art exhibits were not worth the trip; the interior of the building was.
This place doesn't sound like much to the uninformed (that would be me) but it's worth a visit if you're strolling in downtown St Paul. The building itself has a storied history that includes the FBI and 1930s era gangsters. There are permanent and temporary exhibits here so surprise yourself. If you are a music lover (especially piano), you will love the Schubert Club Museum in this building; we received an excellent free tour through the museum and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you for your terrific comments! You certainly were paying attention during your tour! We are so happy that you enjoyed your tour and visit to Landmark Center. As you discovered, we offer free guided public tours Thursdays at 11 am and Sundays at noon. No reservations needed! Our guides are all volunteers who love this building - and it shows!
Thank you, so much! Our Visitor Information Service Desk volunteers couldn't have said it any better than you did. Visitors should allow plenty of time to stroll through the building, or perhaps take a guided tour, and then visit our two free museums. Good thing we have a restaurant in the building, because a 3 - 4 hour visit is normal! Please come back and visit again.
Thank you, Thaddeus! Landmark is a wonderful specimen of architectural styles and a treasure trove of local history! Indeed, the American Association of Woodturners Gallery of Wood Art and the Schubert Club Museum are among the best free museums in Saint Paul Do stop back for a free guided tour Thursdays at 11am and Sundays at 12pm - no reservation necessary!
Thanks, Joe, for your kind remarks about our beautiful and historic Landmark Center! I am so glad you were able to visit, and self-tour throughout the building. I must make one correction, however: although many famous gangsters from the 1930s were brought to trial in Landmark Center, John Dillinger was not among them! Although Dillinger resided in Saint Paul for a while, he never ventured inside the Federal Court House (now Landmark Center), although his girlfriend, Evelyn "Billie" Freschette was tried and convicted here, as was Public Enemy #1 Alvin "Creepy" Karpis. Visitors can learn more about Saint Paul's "gangster-haven-days" at Landmark Center's interpretive "Uncle Sam Worked Here" panels throughout the building!
There IS a lot going on at Landmark Center! Thanks for your great comment. We have a year-round menu of public cultural programs for all ages. Hope you'll join us!
The Landmark Center architecture is amazing. the views from the workout facility at the St. Paul Hotel really allow you to see the details and appreciate its uniqueness.
