Spirit Mountain has a wonderful natural asset. The view of Superior Wisconsin and the St Louis bay is an awesome sight. I love the spring skiing here. The hills have a southern exposer and there are a few nice spots to get off the hill and take in the sun when one needs a break. There is a 700 foot vertical drop. it has 22 runs with 5 chairlifts, one conveyor lift and one tow rope. Lift lines are usually short. I give the resort an A for effort but the limiting factor here is the terrain itself is not for the advanced skier. For beginners and intermediate skiers the hills are about right.
My FIVE Rating is for the Alpine Coaster at Spirit Mountain, although, from what I saw of the skiing, it looks like a great area, for the midwest at least. We took 2 rides apiece on the Alpine Coaster and could have stayed for about four more! It is a BLAST! We have ridden a similar Coaster in Glenwood Springs, Co. and I would've thought that the Colorado slide was longer and steeper, it is Colorado after all, but upon further study, Colorado's is longer, but ONLY 200 feet!! This coaster at Spirit Mt. is 3200 feet of pure enjoyment and smiles. We bought 4 rides for $35 and my wife was only planning on 1 ride...well, as soon as I caught her at the bottom, she yells "I'm going AGAIN" and I laughed and said I KNEW you would. GREAT RIDE...can't wait to go back in summer with friends!
Thank you for choosing Spirit Mountain as your place for ADVENTURE this past weekend! We deeply appreciate your feedback--it helps us grow and learn so that we can continue to be a destination for FUN in Duluth! We hope to see you again soon!Old Man WInter
The kids hit the hills and the Mom's went cross country skiing. They had a blast, and loved it. The lodge here is now at the bottom, I guess I expected a little more. The food and staff was a disappointment to our kids - the kids are paying customers too!
This is way too cool. You can go at your own speed down the mountain. You'll want to get more than one trip ticket. I do not like regular roller coasters but you can go at your own speed down the hill. Make sure you send all your speedy kids down first and then try to enjoy the ride. I told the person behind me to give it an extra 60 sec count before or he'd be riding my tail. Of course you can go down like my teen son and never use brakes and you'll be down in 10 seconds. It then takes you back up the hill where you get off the ride where you got on. Kids did the Zip line - they used their extra ticket for that. You actually are in a ride like thing not the kind where you're wearing a harness. It sends you down the mountain and hauls you back up.Make sure you take in the view when you're going down the hill, it's awesome!!
I ski race in the winter at Spirit and Bike there in the summer its a wonderful place for anybody. They also do snocross on the bunny hill every year! Spirit is owned by the city so its well maintained
To start, we entered the adventure zone area to find the only employee, an obese gentleman with long blonde hair, moving tables around for what appeared to be no reason. We waited at the counter for about 3 minutes before he said he would be with us. About 5 minutes later, while he continued to move the tables around, some other customers walked in and went to a different counter to be helped. About 3 minutes after that, he walked over and starting helping those customers, though we had done nothing but wait patiently. Finally, when he did help us, he was very rude and condescending, asking us if we knew how to apply the sticker for the tubing hill pass. It's just like any sticker, you remove the back and press it. I will never go there again simply for this horrible customer service. Not to mention the alpine coaster is not worth the money, you are paying $14.50 for probably a 30 second ride, though this gentleman had said it lasts for about 6 minutes. Additionally the tubing cost is $19 per person for 2 hours, tubing is fun wherever you go, but this is not worth it and you can find much more fun places for less cost, and with employees who aren't completely inept.
Spirit Mountain ski area is great for beginners as well as intermediate skiers. The ski runs are long, the chairlifts are fast and able to seat four skiers at a time. This area is owned by the city of Duluth & they do a great job. There are two ski lodges located on the top as well as on the bottom of this area. The lift operators are very helpful. The expert terrain is limited to basically to two most northern runs & depending when a ski meet & races are set up on certain dates these runs are generally closed off to open skiing. But there is enough terrain & room for everybody. Season lift tickets are a real bargain compared to all other areas and the area overlooks the Duluth harbor & Lake Superior. Most hotels/motels offer skier packages and be sure to ask local restaurants if they offer skier discounts. Overall....Spirit Mountain is one very fun area to ski with families and has terrain that can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of skiing ability & offers "the most bang for the dollar."
This is a great ski hill for beginners. If you're looking for a skiing challenge, you won't find it here, but it's a great place to ski with less advanced friends or family and enjoy a cocktail or two in the chalet. Full rental options available and the price was normal for a ski hill (expensive). They offered the Timber Twister and a tubing park as well, but we did not experience those options on this trip.
We enjoyed the scenery - the views are amazing. You can take your time and enjoy the sights and smells of Fall.
the alpine coaster is very fast and very fun. you get to go in and out of trees and see the lake. lots of fun
Visited Duluth to see our college freshman and decided to visit Spirit Mountain as well. The 60 second tandem zip line was a blast but seeing the leaves on a wonderful fall day was fantastic.
We came for the downhill mountain biking, and it was awesome! The trails are excellent. A day ticket was $20, so very reasonable. They were out of lift tickets at the base so we had to drive up to the top, which was very crowded with people also using the other attractions, like the roller coaster. But once we got the ticket sorted out, it was a great time.
2 Friends and I went here to ride the Alpine Coaster and boy was it fun!!! Had a great time and will come back again with different people so they can experience the fun as well!
This is one of the better places to ski in the upper midwest and is located next to a metropolitan area.
