This was our family's favorite museum in Duluth, we all enjoyed walking through the cars and exhibits, they captured the attention for all ages.
I loved this place. We had only two hours, but I could have spent all day there. Lots of engines and cars spanning a hundred years of train travel, with charming displays, plenty of history, video etc. As good or better than the Sacramento train museum, and worth going out of your way to see.
Northern Minnesota was built by trains. Trains brought the Iron from the mines that built America. These are the trains that did it. Lots of trains to look at, go in, and ride. You will see some of the largest train engines ever built. This is a must see destination for Train Buffs, and just about everyone else young and old.
I am somewhat of a train buff and a depot sign collector and have maybe stopped here about 5 times over the past 20 years and have always enjoyed my visits and always something new to see.The setting is ideal being a former train station and just fun to wander around and look at the various displays and the rolling stock equipment. While not maybe as awesome as ones I have visited in Baltimore or Sacramento, for train memorabilia and history of Minnesota and Wisconsin operations, it is more than rewarding.I will continue to stop and visit on trips to Duluth.
I have taken my daughter here several times through the years. There are many exhibits for both adults and children. What I love is history and this museum has so much information and displays about the history of Duluth and the railroads. When I would bring my daughter and her friends they all light up every time they got to go from one train to the next. Here you can not only look at the trains but you can go into almost every one. The kids love to go into the engineers areas and stick there heads out of the windows and get there pictures taken. Bring your camera here you can take some wonderful pictures. For the kids there is also a children's museum that has some wonderful interactive displays.
Great place for adults and kids . My 23 year old daughter went with a friend to take his son. She isn't a train lover and she enjoyed it .
We loved the underground reconstruction of the railroad station and the village town of the times past. Lots of objects to see and discuss as a family. The trains are well preserved and provides lots of in-period settings to allow visits to get a sense of the past. Well done!
If you are a railroad buff, don't miss this. Old engines, cars and memorabilia. Also an excursion train along the lake.
If you or someone in your group loves trains you must stop here. We stop here every year so our son can climb on the trains, play at the train tables and watch the model trains. I think you need to like trains or history to go here.
A great place for kids of all ages to explore. Make plans to take a train ride up the North Shore in the Fall!
Lots of fun kids activities. Many historic trains and simulated town.Wish we could see a sleeping car, but did see a dining car. Will be back to check out the many types of train rides they offer, but in September or October when the leaves are at peak.
Lots of history about the trains of yesteryear. Very informative great place to spend an afternoon. Takes one back in time.
the museum part has lots of info and the best part was looking at all the old trains. it was very cool.
You will enjoy this stop even if you don't care for trains. My wife and I enjoyed our visit much and neither one of us is a train enthusiast. We loved to see the history of trains and the Duluth area.Give yourself a good 2 hours so that you can also spend time exploring the insides of the trains also.
Fun place to visit and fun to learn about the maritime history of Lake Superior! They have videos playing in the basement that provide an illustrated view of many of the areas in the museum along with the history of Lake Superior.
