I came out with my daughter's class field trip. We were greeted by the staff. They gave us a schedule so we could avoid the other classes. Very organized. We then came back out with the family. We chose the weekday so it wasn't so busy. It is cheaper during week because some things weren't open. My children are 10 and 5 and we had no problem keeping busy. Only one thing cost extra but we chose not to do that. Overall we had a great time. Worth the money to get out to the farm and in the fresh air.
The first time I went to Bloomsbury was ok, but the main lady that helped us was extremely rude! Scream Acre is also something I'll never do again. It costs $20 to stand in line for a few hours, yes I said HOURS, with no entertainment. It's ridiculous and one of the worst thing I've ever spent money on. And that's sayin somethin.
I'm somewhat reluctant to write a negative review of Bloomsbury Farm because my family has visited every year for the last 4, and we have many happy memories. However, I doubt that we'll visit again simply because it's too expensive! $12 per person just to walk the grounds is not affordable for us. If you're able to go on a weekday the admission price is $8.50 per person, but some activities are not available on weekdays. Also, several of the attractions, such as the shooting gallery, zip line, and gemstone mining, cost extra. Also, make sure you bring your own food and drinks, because it's very expensive to buy anything there. Even water will cost you as there is no drinking fountain available.I understand that the owners need to be able to maintain the grounds and pay their employees, but THEY must understand that it is possible to price yourself out of the market. I feel that since they were featured on the Today Show last fall, perhaps they've gotten a bit full of themselves. On a smaller scale, nearby Kroul Farms offers a corn maze, pumpkins and other vegetables, cute photo opportunities, and it's FREE.
Pay $12 just to walk onto the grounds and everything after that will cost you extra. Our family of 4 adults and 4 small children (ages 4-7) cost $96 just for admission. Every activity there will cost extra. Big ripoff. $96 just to walk around is NOT my idea of fun.
We were at Bloomsbury on a changeable October day--sunny and warm for the most part, though, and had a great time. The zip-line was on our agenda and the staff there were professional and helpful. We then partook of nearly everything at the farm and found everything up to snuff and ready for visitors. The young people on our outing are already planning their return visits.
One of the top Haunt Attractions in the Midwest by far!!! Located in Atkins, Iowa. During the day it is a Agri-attraction for family. With pig races, picking out pumpkins, feeding the animals, rides and more, but come nightfall, the farm is transformed into something that will make your worst nightmares feel like your "happy place." The first attraction is the "Curtain of Chaos". This is a demented world of sinister clowns and good luck trying to find your way out this wacked out maze. The 2nd Attraction is the Slaughter House. A two story torture barn that has every sick and twisted way to bring your fears to life. The last is the corn field itself. Roughly a mile long path of different scenes and characters. From Kyle's Krazy Klowns, to the witch of the field, the Reaper, and The Midwest Boogey Man: The Korn Stalker!!!! This is a MUST SEE if you are traveling through Iowa during October. The show is 7pm-11pm every Friday and Saturday of October. What happens in the corn........STAYS IN THE CORN!!!!! Scary fun!!!
We stopped here on the way to Dubuque from Des Moines. For $20 per person we zipped 1200 feet. A bit disappointing as we thought it was 1200 feet one way and then back but it ended up being 600 feet each way instead. It was from tower to tower. The three guys that took us out were super friendly and very nice.
We use to LOVE this place! I have taken my schoolage daycare here every fall the week before Halloween for years. We didn't go last year as I was closed. We went yesterday as it was a half day of school and FULL of huge disappointment. I am telling you DO NOT waste your money! During the weekdays it is $8.00 per person to get in. On weekends it is $11.00 per person to get in. They have a coupon on their website you can print for $1.00 off per person. If you are going to go do it on a weekend and pay the extra $3.00 because during the week nothing is open anymore!! Their website lists only some of the things that are not going during the week!! They use to have a small haunted house that ended when you went through this cool vortex. Then they had a big pole barn that they turned into a dark curtain Chaos. Now you only get the dark curtain Chaos ( which is just a maze made out of curtains) as you have to pay for the haunted house now and it is not open on the weekdays. They did put the vortex into the curtain chaos so you still get to do that. They moved the peddal car track to the front of the farm and made the track a lot smaller PLUS they only had 5 big peddal cars and out of the 5 two were broke. The two conveyer belts they have set up to put food (25 cents a handful) in to feed the mountain goats....both were broke and stretched out so bad that the food would get halfway up to the goat and the wind would blow and the conveyer belt would flip all the food out. The Barrel Train was not running. The chicken lady's show was broke and there was a man working on it the entire time we were there. I did not see the tractor tire maze at all. There was no haunted barn either that we seen. The pumpkin blaster and corn cannon do not go during the week at all. The Western town is not a town but a large swingset with several horse swings and 2 big tire swings. The kids did have a lot of fun on this. They also loved the addition of the HUGE rocking chair. The kids corn maze was fun and the kids loved spinning the wheel to see what was the next activity. We also had a lot of fun on the hay ride. We did that twice. The Pillow jump is $2.00. If you want to do mining it is $5.00 for a bag of dirt. The shooting Gallery is $2 for f10 shots. Wednesday nights is flashnight corn maze and that is $9.00. Scream Acres (haunted corn maze), The Slaughter House and the Curtain Chaos is $20.00 for all three activities and these are only open on the weekends after dark. The zip line is 20.00 and you must weigh at least 60 pounds. The food was $4.00 for a cheese burger, $3.75 for a hotdog/hamburger, $3.75 for a brat, $1.25 for a small bag of doritos, $1.00 for a bag of popcorn, coffee $2.00 and other assorted drinks anywhere form $2.00-$3.75. They have expanded the store and it is very large now but everything in there was so expensive!! $9, $10 and $11 dollars for small jars of jelly, pickles ect. $4.00 for a small carmel apple!! I just could not believe the cost of things in the storeConclusion; The 2 corn mazes are fun. It seems that all the free things have not really been taken care of or updated..... but all the things that they have added cost money so this family farm has become interested in just making money now. If you are going to do the corn mazes you will need longer than 1-2 hours.
For a family of 4 with both kids under the age of 4, we spent $37 just to get onto the property. We then had to pay for EVERYTHING else that you used to not have to pay for. Want to bounce on the inflated bouncy pillow, that'll be $2. Hot day? Kids drank all of the water from their sippy cups? Well don't bother looking for a drinking fountain because they don't have one. Instead step into their candy shack and pay for water in their while you pay for your over priced pumpkins. We used to come here a lot in the past, but will not return. They have new attractions but you have to pay for those too, so that didn't make a difference. I'm sadden by the direction Bloomsbury Farm has gone, they lost a loyal visitor and I will make sure to let my friends know that it isn't worth the trip. Will be looking for a new place to go in the fall.
This place used to be a great place to take our kids but this year they charge extra for everything! To bounce on the bouncy pillow is $2 on top of entry fee. We spent $40 ( 2 parents, 2 & 3 year old kids) just to get in. They don't even have a water fountain to refill your kid's sippy cup. It is obvious that they are squeezing every possible penny out of you. The new attractions are not worth the money and they charge extra for those. Won't be going back or recommending to friends. Sad that this place changed so much.
So many things to do and see - outstanding customer service. I'm so glad you are here for all the families to enjoy.
awesome place for family fun, a lot ot do, great photo ops
My kids and I take a field trip there every fall and love spending the day there enjoying all there is to do. The corn maze is very well done.
this is the place to go for Halloween. great for all ages
I love to come here to see how clever these folks are...the goat ramp is the epitome of clever...kids convey food up a belt and goats climb HIGH to reach it.I love the interpretation of agriculture, and the clever slides and exhibits. BEST pumpkin patch in eastern Iowa!
