I go here when I want to hear eagles scream and cows chew the cud. Most people do not experience either of these things, because they go to the lake and beach section. This has a paved path that wends it way through some nicely landscaped and benched areas and is well worth a walk around. But if you want solitude and an off the beaten track feel, then skip this and head to the visitor center building, park anywhere near this and head back into the open field, where savannah oaks and large pines give refuge to bird and beast alike. Walking the perimeter of the park will afford the sights and sounds I mention up front. There is a small creek and plenty of wild grasses boarding farmland with a sweeping view of Grant Wood-esque country. I am never disappointed.
Kent Park is a nice place to visit if you are in the mood for some outdoor activity. We usually go there to take a walk around the lake. If the weather's nice, you will enjoy the place. There's a beach on one side of the lake if you want to take a dip. You can even fish off a small pier if you are so inclined. There are several hiking trails which are great, especially if you have dogs. Since it's a state park, dogs are welcome. Our dog loves to go there. The main trail around the lake is very level without much incline. If you want to get out when the weather is decent, check it out.
Kent Park looks like a nothing kinda thing for the entrance off of Hwy 6.But inside you will find a large park with many separate areas and a lake thatwill satisfy any size group for a fun park day.It is a "Gotta Go" kinda place.IHG,Rube
Although just a county park, this is way better than many state parks in Iowa. Every site in the campground has access to electricity and the wifi service is great in all areas. The pads are graveled and level, maybe a little to close together but otherwise nice. There is even a tornado safe room within the campground. At $15 a night it can't be beat, and the park is only 8 miles from Coralville/Iowa City. The youth group camping area is secluded and far away from general camping. There are lots of things to do here. There is a small but informative nature center that is open on weekends, lots of hiking trails, and many picnic shelters. The lake has a level, graveled path all the way around it which features historic bridges rescued from Johnson County gravel roads. There is a nice and beach and they recently added a handicapped accessible fishing pier. The whole park is clean and well-managed. We camp here 3 or 4 times during the season and enjoy it every time.
Kent Park has a great playground area, nice walking trails, and a beautiful beach. We live in Iowa City and visit often in the summer. Highly recommended!
Kent Park is a very nice park. I love the paths around the water. The campground is also very clean and quite nice, although the set-up if a little "hilly", the sites are private and shaded.
Always enjoy this 1,000 acre county park - recreational area. If you love the outdoors, you'll love Kent Park. 3 miles west of Tiffin, Iowa on Hwy 6. Go often to hike around the lake (large pond) on the trail. There are numerous hiking trails, fields of native prairie grasses and wildflowers throughout the park, an educational conservation center with a short hike around another pond for kids and adults alike, a small area for swimming, kayaks and canoes (no motors) enjoy the peace of a quiet lake, shelters for picnicing and joining with friends, and camping areas on a hillside with showers. A wonderful area for appreciating the peacefulness and beauty of nature. Enjoy!http://www.johnson-county.com/dept_conservation.aspx?id=4055
