They have many hands on exhibits which my kids loved and in heart of downtown.the gateway computer and flight 232 were best

I stopped in because this was top of the list for Sioux City. It was a very neat building for such a small city! Very well designed building, the exhibits were fun. Would recommend more for kids than adults.

What Amazing History! This is a top of the line facility with interactive exhibits and great historical information! Fossil dig for the kids, historical displays and collections for adults, you could spend hours learning about the rich history of Sioux City. Stop and see the movie and pick up a souvenir in the museum gift shop. in town for a while? Check out the weekly lectures and classes.

This is a well-designed, interactive museum. The exhibits are excellent and informative. The visit begins with an (optional) film that is fun and worth the time. While local history museums can be somewhat drab, this one is not.

Went to the Sioux City Public Museum when I visited Sioux City for the first time in January. Right off the bat, the staff were very friendly to my friend and I, including the first person to greet me, who turned out to have been from a town north of where I live; she and I had a very pleasant conversation about the Chicago area.There are many exhibits to see at the museum, for all types of interests. There is a small section near the 1918 Bulldog Mack fire truck that has some items recovered from the 1989 crash of United Flight 232 (which crashed at the Sioux City Airport) and there is an area that children (and adults too!) can looks for "dinosaur fossils". There is also a small video that is shown several times an hour, about the history of Sioux City, and it is not only very informative, but is filled with flashing lights and sound effects.

I am from Sioux City, but moved away in 1988. This was a fun visit for me. You do it at your own pace. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Admission is free and there is parking really close. Bring change for the parking meter.

This little museum is a great overview of Sioux City history. Photos and exhibits bring the history to life.

lots of info about the area good amount of stuff to check out. Children would enjoy the museum and they do have staff tour also.

Fun and smart! We will definitely be back because I lost track of time and we had to scurry before we got a good look at the log cabin, teepee, and corn palaces. The mix of films, interactive displays, and artifacts is inspired.

This is a very nice museum. Lots of fascinating information about Sioux City. The history movie is interesting. Lots of great exhibits. Short films about historical events in the museum. Cool historical pics. Fun for kids, but informative for adults. and it's free.

The Sioux City Museum isn't new, but this building is new to it. Be sure to start at the short introductory film just inside the door. You'll get 15-20 minute summary of where this town came from and where it's been. There is a lot in a small space, including a road laying machine, large truck, carriage, cabin - just wait and see! There is a time machine that shows how the town developed in graphic form. You can spend hours looking at photos in the viewing booth. There is a temporary exhibit of some type that changes every few months. There's enough to keep a kid interested for a bit, but if you bring your kids, you'll want to return later to take your time. If you are a genealogist, you might want to check out the archives on the other side of the building.

I spent most of my childhood in Sioux City, but left as soon as I could for greener pastures. I invariably thought of SC as "sewer city" much like many of my friends. Coming back after 25 years and visiting the museum, I was extremely impressed by the important and pioneering events SC has represented and been involved in. Who knew so many famous people grew up in this town ("Ann Landers", "Dear Abby", and "Beaver Cleaver" included!). The museum does a fantastic job of laying out the history, but making it fun and visually stimulating as well. I'm glad they don't charge, but I would've paid to see it anyway (they do accept donations). The introductory film is a must - it gets you started on a pleasant journey of discovery. The exhibits change, so it's NOT a dusty, static, musty old museum like some I've seen. Highly recommended!

This is a well put together, informative. I grew up in Sioux City and really loved learning about the area. I do miss the nostalgia the museum had when it was at the Jackson Mansion but loved the flow in the new place. Make sure to watch the video. They did a great job on it.

What a great museum! It's thoroughly modern with state of the art displays concerning the history of Sioux City. They also show several excellent videos, and some of the displays are hands-on. You can also play several versions of "Sioux City Sue" to your heart's content. This is a fun place, with a great, congenial staff. See it on a rainy day, or a sunny day for that matter. You won't be disappointed!

We stopped here to break up a road trip, and are so glad we did! All the staff were very friendly, and the exhibits were fun for our kids! They especially enjoyed the dinosaur dig area, where they could find realistic looking fossils. The "sand" they were digging in felt like ground up tires? Very soft, not dirty. I loved looking at all the fascinating artifacts from the 19th and 20th century, like the 1820s farm equipment, dentist chair and tools from the 1800s, and loads of Native American artifacts. 1970s TV equipment was fascinating for my 5 year old. ;-) My 9 year old is a huge geology fan and they had LOTS of rocks and gems to see. We also went into a log cabin replica that all the kids thought was cool. It was calm and quiet, not a lot of in your face screens and technology (although some screens). Also, at the entrance there is a corn palace booth where a camera in the wall takes your picture and you can use their program to email it to a friend! All of this, and it was FREE! Can't beat that!
