The Sullivan Brothers Iowa Vets museum has very thoughtful and well-planned exhibits, including an opportunity to listen to interesting oral testimonies. Well worth the visit.
Enjoyed this museum with my dad and son. Father was a Vietnam vet so there was a section dedicated to that conflict/war. Many learning stations and clean.
During spring break this year many local attractions offered admission for one dollar a person. Entertainment was enhanced with crafts & other outside organizations. Our grandchildren loved the afternoon we spent visiting this museum. Local history was interesting as was general information.
The war displays are new and interesting. The interactive features show well enough. The local angle is great. I need to go back again and dig deeper into the war displays.
This museum was not on our list of must sees but we are certainly glad we went to see it. The museum is very well kept and had wonderful exhibits about the Iowans who experienced the wars. You really get a good feel about how those men and women felt about their country and fighting for their freedom. There were good hands on exhibits for anyone who wanted to participate. There is plenty of free parking and the museum is easy to find.
I took my son, daughter, and their friends because my son needed to visit a planetarium to fulfill a Boy Scout Astronomy merit badge requirement. It is odd that the planetarium is in the same museum as the Veterans museum. After the planetarium show the kids wanted to explore the museum. We had not planed on it or realized it was in the same place when we planned the trip. The kids found the museum very engaging. It covered wars from the Civil war up. Kids want to go back to more museums in Waterloo's Grout Museum District. I was very pleasantly surprised at our chance find.
I work at a museum, so I am picky about other museums. I thought this museum is very well done. I love the interactive they offer, and I think my fiancee and I had more fun then his teenagers! The staff at the desk was very friendly and nice to talk with. I would definitely go back again!
Veterans and their family specially grand kids will get a whole new understanding of what the veteran went through and discover a whole new meaning for the Veteran. Highly recommend this for the whole family
I visited with my family and dad. Every war with it's history is covered. I thought the most fascinating part was the video tapes of actual veterans from each war. It makes you feel like you are there with them. Very educational
this is one of the best war museum in the Midwest save a day for this museum because there is plenty to see .be sure an see the Sullivan brother exhibits
Being named the "Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum" can be somewhat deceiving. Although their are some excellent material regarding the Sullivan Brothers, the Iowa Veterans are the true story. There is great coverage of the Civil War to the present with a special emphasis on WWI and WWII. With the audio pieces, one can journey through this museum and listen to the story of Iowa and the wars. It was only $10 and parking is not an issue during the non-peak season.
The story of the Sullivan Brothers is very inspirational. It is hard to attend the museum without tearing up over the story of these 5 brave men all losing their lives while defending our freedom. Definitely a "must see" for any vets and their families.
Nice veterans museum in downtown Waterloo. Many different exhibits and movies honoring veterans in all major wars. Also has a planetarium and historical exhibits from northeast Iowa.
I took my Dad,son and granddaughter to see the M*A*S*H exhibit because My Dad is a Korean vet, my son loves history and i thought my granddaughter should know what her Great Papa did for this country .
The museum is great. This rates up with the Smithsonians in DC. Very informative and a great interactive tribute to the Iowan veterans.
