Bar service sucks- bartender with an attitude moves like a sloth. Hoping the show is better than the service.
The lobby is very, very crowded at the Funny Bone - you basically purchase your tickets and then stand packed like sardines until your show starts. There also needs to be a better lining-up system, as we arrived very early to the show we were seeing and then were bombarded by other visitors when trying to enter the show doors. Other than that, this is a nice place to visit and they do manage to bring in some VERY good acts. I would visit again, just wish they would improve on a few things.
We had my husbands office party there and then got to enjoy the comedians. We hit the jackpot, all three comedians were awesome the night we were there! Dave Coulier was the headliner and he was hilarious!!! The servers were great, the drinks were strong and the food was good!
I liked the atmosphere, but it was a bit crowded. So crowded that is made it difficult for the waitstaff to navigate through to deliver the high priced food and drinks. It's worth the trip if it's a good comedian :)
Along with my husband and 2 friends, we stopped by to see John Caparulo. We didn't eat, so I can't comment on the food, but the atmosphere was really great. Our waitress was nice and I never had an empty glass. The opening act was funny as was John. Definitely somewhere I'll go again!
We went with another couple and their adult kids. There was 7 in our party. We were seated at two tables which was OK. Drinks are expensive. Our waiter did try to keep up as I was the designated driver. Headliner was funny. Would check it out again. We didn't eat so I don't know about their food. Need to have more stalls in the Ladies room.
Warning---your bill comes with a 15% tip already added to the total and because its so dark when you get the bill and pay it, most people probably don't see that and tip twice. Haven't been to The Bone for awhile, but Josh Blue headlined and so we had to go. Have seen him here before, and he is always fantastic. The menu has changed a little, and ordered the hamburger which comes with bacon and cheese. I was surprised at how good it was---don't know why, but I always have somewhat low expectations of the food here. Came with fries and they've upgraded the regular fries as well which were also very good--not the crinkle cut take them or leave them kind of usual bar fries. I would really have liked a side salad, but you can't get that here---its a full size dinner salad or nothing. There is small print on the menu that says if all the checks at your table total $30 or more, they add on the 15% tip. So I looked for that when the tab came. My friend didn't see it, but had added 15% onto the tip line of her credit card slip before I brought it to her attention. Friday night 7:30 show looked like it was sold out. The other issue was that my friend tried calling the box office many, many times when they said it was open, and the phone was never answered. So she bought two tickets online and was charged a $10 service charge. I guess if you make money like that selling tickets, why would you bother to staff and pay people to take phone reservations. But a $10 service charge seemed high. That's a 25% service charge on a total cost of $40. So beware the hidden charges.
The club has always done a very good job of having really good talent. Even if I've never heard of them (which doesn't mean a whole lot since I don't REALLY follow the comedy circuit) they have never disappointed. I do not recommend Sandman. That was the one show where my husband and I were just eh when we left. I don't really believe in hypnosis. The person on the stage seemed a little hokey. This is my opinion and if they next person loved it then you'll have to see for yourself and make your own opinion.
The waitress was nice but management is terrible. Was there last Saturday and the ragin Cajun was there. He was extremely rude and nasty to some in the audience. My group left along with several others. Not funny at all. Talked to management and they basically said too bad. Before the show started that same comedian was almost punched by someone from an earlier show. They charge 17.00 a person and then bring in this type of entertainment. Save your money or better yet don't waste it at the funny bone.
The management is so rude and disrespectful. The comedian The Rajin Cajun is a disgrace and half of the paying customers walked out within the first 5 minutes of his act. The management yelled and cussed at the customers who left the show. I will never visit this place again and I will never recommend this as a place to go. Shame on the management for treating paying customers the way the do.
The club itself is very nice and they get some great acts at a decent price. They do not have enough people working so plan on waiting a long time for your drinks and food. The food is average, nothing to brag about. If you order a mixed drink it comes with a souvenir glass which is cool.
I've been to a lot of comedy clubs throughout the country, including a bunch of iconic ones in NYC. With that in mind, I was interested in seeing what the Des Moines Funny Bone would be like. All in all, I was really impressed. It was larger than a lot of venues, but not necessarily too big. My first impression was that their drink menu was very affordable (a rarity for comedy clubs). They had a wide selection of beers, all with reasonable prices. Second, they have a fairly broad menu for a comedy venue. I wasn't overly excited to eat dinner at the club (our schedule didn't allow time for dinner beforehand), but again I was pleasantly surprised. The prices were decent and we all enjoyed the food. Very casual fare with friendly service. Our waitress did a great job throughout the night and we had a great time.I'm disappointed it took so long for me to check out the Funny Bone, but I can say with certainty that we'll be going back again soon!
We visit the Funny Bone a few times a year. They get good comedians for a decent price. The waiters are overworked and have far more tables then they can handle, so the service sucks. We usually end up waiting an hour for our food that is overpriced and average at best. I would recommend eating before you go to the club.
Went here in November to hear Willie Farrell! He is hilarious so you don't want to miss him! The food is not very exciting so I would suggest you eat prior to coming and enjoy the show! Try to sit as close to the center of the club as you can.
We ordered tickets online, I dislike the 4$ 'convenience fee' but everyone is doing it nowadays. The show itself was great, as were the wings. Overall we had a great time.
