Great place to learn of Iowa sporting history. A Little dull for the younger children we wee with. The museum curator obviously doesn't have children as he was not understanding of their level of energy and enthusiasm. Don't touch anything when he is around.
We stopped expecting a "who's who" exhibit of famous Iowans. It is that... but so much more. There are interactive stations covering many fields of endeavor including sports, athletics, farming, medicine, music, and hollywood. We thought we would spend an hour or less but spent more than two. Worth seeing.
The Iowa Hall of Pride captures the heart of athletes and the excellence in Iowa sports at the high school, collegiate and professional levels.
Every Iowan needs to make a trip to Des Moines and go through the Iowa Hall of Pride. I learned about people I didn't know had roots in Iowa and reminisced about those I knew. It's a great experience for families and people of all ages. I was very proud of being an Iowan when I walked out of there.
The Iowa Hall of Pride is a very interesting place. It has many different categories of sports, school activities, and famous Iowans. Very cool.
It told the story of Iowa athletic accomplishments for every sports. There were games for the young and old to keep them interested and entertained. Lots of interesting posters and photos. Parking is free.
My husband and I were hired by a well-known real estate company to take professional photos at their holiday party. We had taken them for that company every few years at different locations, but this was the first at the Iowa Hall of Pride. The people we interacted with before, during and immediately after the event who work for the facility were very helpful and friendly. It was a genuine pleasure working with them. I pre-selected one of their available rooms to process the photographs in, with the required electricity capability for our computer and printers and the "just right" location to take pictures. There was a lovely room where tables were festively set with cloth tablecloths and napkins, The hallways were decorated by large photographs of sports and other well-known celebrities , backlit for special effect as people walk about the facility. There is also a game room at the back, near the restrooms. We did not dine there, since we were working but everyone we saw was smiling, and not just in front of the camera!
The Iowa Hall of Pride is a great place to take your family. The facility is modern with many hands on actives and displays. We stopped before a high school basketball game and wished we would have allotted more time to spend at this facility. The director, Jack is a wonderful host!
Great place to learn about IA sports history. the staff was very friendly and the memorabilia is great to look at and explore.
Wasn't sure what to expect, but left impressed. We happened to be there when a Iowa state football game was on. So we had the whole place to ourselves! The lady at the front desk was super nice and seem really passionate about Iowa. You start with a video. Then you explore on your own. I think to watch all interactive video displays they have, you would need a week! Plenty of info for this history buff. There's a game room in the back that was lot's of fun. Found parking on the street that was free. If you're in the Des Moines area, this is a must see
It was interesting, fun and very enjoyable. The price was very reasonable. Conveniantly located down town near the arena and convention center. Definately worth the time. Parking is at a premium if there is an event going on.
is the director for this wonderful building that tells the story of Iowans - and you can see his dedication to a job well done at every turn. If you want to know more about this midwest state, THIS is the place to do it!
The Hall of Pride is ever changing and adding new things. I hadn't been there for a year or two and they have added and improved. If you went to school in Iowa and/or graduated from a school in Iowa, you really need to visit this place. You can look up your high school or any high school in the state and get information. There is also all types of activities and sports stories. They've added a display for Shawn Johnson (Olympian and winner of Dancing With the Stars) and Zach Johnson (PGA golfer). They are currently in the process of adding a display on farming in the state of Iowa. I would highly recommend this for the whole family.
I thought this would be like a museum............NOT! Shoot baskets, throw the football, watch videos, play basketball with you in the video, learn about anatomy, pictures, posters, and even sing with state all-state choirs! You can't take it all in in one visit! Technicology genius!
If you graduated from an Iowa high school, or if your children are attending a public school in Iowa, go see the history of your community. Educational, interactive, hands-on for the kids--this is a great summer vacation option.
