The zoo is always fun! It seems like they have less animals then they did before, and the animals like to hide so you dont always get to see all of them. The park is also more dirty then I remember, but still always fun, and will knock 1-3 hours off your day depending on what you see and how long you want to look.
This is a small zoo right off the downtown area with a surprising variety of animals. There is a giraffe encounter where you can feed them lettuce which we did for $3 each person and a sloth encounter which we didn't have time for. I wish the enclosures for some of the animals were bigger and less cage like (like where the zebras are) but there are some newer areas that are nice (like the wallaby area) showing that updates are happening. We ate lunch at one of the 2 areas for meals - the one near the entrance - and there is one back by the giraffes and Africa area that had a bit more variety with wraps and pizza. The one we ate at had hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken tenders and corn dogs - nothing special and the food was ok. There is also dipping dots, popcorn and pretzels around the zoo for purchase. You can also bring picnic lunches and use the tables spread around to enjoy a meal at. We had a nice time. The parking lot snakes around a lovely downtown park with a rose garden, an art museum and an historical museum nearby.
We really enjoyed Boise and it pains me to give anything there a less than stellar review, but the zoo was just ok. Granted, we were there in February so lots of animals were indoors or not on display, but it didn't seem that it would have made a huge difference to go in Summer. It was clean enough, no complaints there. The one saving grace was the prairie dog exhibit - my son enjoyed going into the little tunnel and popping his head up to see the dogs right in front of his face. And husband and I got a kick out of the photo ops. However, our zoo here in Seattle is far superior.
Not many animals, food selection was not varied and the bathrooms were gross. The penguins habitat was interesting. The zebras were interesting as well.
While a zoo rarely disappoints the young children, the Boise Zoo is likely to be a disappointment for most adults. It is a very small zoo and though the animals look to be very well tended there is nothing truly special about this small-city zoo in my humble opinion. The place could use an upgrade and an exhibit that is unique to make it worth spending the money on.
Such a fun palce to take kids or just yourself. Also a great place for a date with your significant other. The animals are cute and some are hilarious. The wild geese chased my husband, which i found funny and he did not.
Even though it's small Zoo Boise is great value when you have small children. The layout is good for seeing everything without doing a lot of backtracking. Concessions are expensive though. Bring your own water! The carousel only costs a dollar, though. Best time to visit will be when the butterfly exhibit opens again.
We travelled to the Zoo one "warmish" afternoon with my niece. The animals were well cared for and the exhibits nicely put together, We were particularly fond of the kick she got out of the dinosaur regalia throughout the park.
You are wrong. I know though . .Boise=Zoo . .its true! It is small . . .but dang, they put on a good show for the price. The kids will love it. You can do it in under two hours if you don't eat. Lions, tigers and bears, oh my! Ohhhhh, and giraffes too!
Visited Zoo Boise during my first trip to Idaho and the Boise area. Hubby and I spent a cold day in the snow wondering the zoo and it was fun and refreshing. The zoo is well laid out with wonderful indoor and outdoor exhibits. Great animals on display with some unique species.
The Boise Zoo has undergone a tremendous transformation over the past several years. If you have not been to the Boise Zoo for awhile, treat yourself to a visit. If you live in Boise and have little ones, or grandchildren, you can't beat the family pass. The Zoo provides fun events throughout the year - which are covered with the pass and you get to skip the long lines to get in! The Boise Zoo is located in Julia Davis Park, home to several other wonderful Boise museums and is right on the Boise River and greenbelt. This is one of the reasons why we love Boise!
Nice enclosures. Friendly staff. They do a lot for conservation and the environment. They have great educational information on the animals.
Zoo Boise is well run, clean, friendly and provides a great place for discovery, learning and relaxing. For visiting friends and family, it can't be beat.If you're a business looking for a cool venue for your next client appreciation event, chat up the folks at Zoo Boise. They can help you arrange just the ticket!
Lots of fun to be had here. Well laid out and easy to get around, great if you have someone who has difficulty with mobility. Make sure you feed the Giraffes!
I decdided to go to the Boise Zoo and to take some photos. Since it was clody and overcast on a working day there where only a handful amount of visitors so practically had the whole place to myself. A few of the exhibits were about and I noticed they were well fed and the conditions were very good. Small zoo but just nice to spend a lot of time and whilst I was there the sun showed up for about an hour and half and I also met some off the keepers who were very informative. All up pleasant day
