idaho anne frank human rights memorial

This is a beautiful monument to peace and tolerance. The sayings range the gamut from famous to obscure, and including minority voices that have been victimized so regularly in our sad human history.Best in spring, summer and fall, as it is a bit bare in the winter without the water flowing, but you cannot leave without being impacted and hopefully, committed to understanding your fellow DIFFERENT human being with some grace and open-mindedness.

This is a gorgeous memorial right along the Boise River Greenbelt. It was so touching I cried. There are several wind up machines you wind in order to hear small audio clips. I personally found it annoying that we'd have to constantly wind it while listening. Why not try solar power instead? One of the machines was missing a handle so we couldn't hear it.

This memorial is a great tribute to civil rights. There are beautifully etched rocks surrounded by water next to the Boise River Greenbelt, library, and Boise State Univ. If you are in the area please stop by and admire the memorial.

We have been to both the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, and the Holocaust Museum in DC. This memorial ranks right up there with them in its impact. Most surprising to find this here, it changed my mind about Boise and Idaho in general. We found Boise to be a delight and this memorial to be a significant cultural monument.

This is a very nice memorial to Anne Frank and human rights in general. The disposition of the statue and the circling benches, and the many interesting texts about the issues humanity has faced and still faces are inspiring and an invitation for dialogue and debate; visiting with a few friends is highly recommended! There are also some recordings one can listen to which tell the history behind the memorial, Anne Frank's life, and human rights issues.

An Anne Frank memorial in Boise? It was a surprise to us, and a pleasant one. The area is filled with inspirational and thought provoking quotes and pictures on stone slabs. The area was under construction when we visited, and it appeared that there were some audio programs but they were not accessible during our visit. There are also quotes of course from Anne's Diary and the whole area is beautiful and touching.The memorial would be good for school aged children both from a historical and an educational point of view. Younger ones would likely enjoy the water but would not find reading the quotes very interesting. They would still likely enjoy walking through the paths and interacting with the exhibit. For adults and school aged children, I recommend about 20-30 minutes.Well worth your time, whether you know the story of Anne Frank well or have barely heard of her.

It is under some construction in mid September, but it is a nice spot to find on your walk along the greenbelt. Do stop and enjoy the serenity of the memorial. I am sure it will be even better when the construction is completed. The things you find along the greenbelt are surprises. I had no idea it was there, when on a Boise visit.

While walking the greenbelt we came upon this memorial quite by accident. Boise has a lot of art lurking in unexpected places, and this artistic memorial was a total surprise, and a pleasant one. The hand wound audio speakers tell the Anne Frank story while there are pictures and quotations on the massive stone walls (Stonehenge light?) around the area. This is not a huge holocaust museum but a smallish but impactful memorial well worth 30 or so minutes of your time. It would be a good way to give middle school kids a little history lesson.

I came across this Park driving on my way to Washington through Idaho. first of all it's completely free to all visitors.I was moved by the Audio story telling at each post, You had to go through the park to hear all of them in sequence.( I loved that you had to spin a wheel like a phonograph, to hear the recording, nice touch, really put you in the time frame.)As you walked through the park there were statues and benches with quotes and even a large concrete book, with words from her diary embossed on it.. It was Peaceful there that cold February day when I visited, I enjoyed this experience very much, it is definitely worth it to stop and listen..

A lot of nice fountains. I enjoy walking the dog here. After you get done enjoying the fountains you can walk along the Greenbelt or visit the library.

Was not sure what the link between Anne Frank and Idaho was but nevertheless this wad a nice site. Lots of things to look at as well as being located neat other attractions

Yes, I know who Anne Frank is . . Anne Frank and Boise? . . Ok . . Ok . .but what the heck . .I stayed there for about 2 hours . . Very powerful memorial . . Extremely well done . . All I can say is DO NOT miss this free memorial.

Beautiful site, behind the library in the greenbelt. Right beside a 1911 Post truss bridge that spans the Boise River. In June 2014, it is partially under repair but 75% of the site, and the most memorable parts, are all accessible. Moving quotes etched into the stone walls - perseverance, hope, strength, longing. Look for it.

This memorial is beautifully done. The carefully chosen quotes each deserve time to mull over and thankfully there are well placed benches to allow one to do just that.The sun can be punishingly hot in Boise and there is little shade. I definitely recommend going but don't try it when the sun is high. This beautiful place is a very intentional antidote to Idaho's tarnished reputation because of resident militia groups.

Despite being partially roped off for repair, it was a very interesting memorial. I especially enjoyed the quotes on the wall from all time periods.
