I am a local, but I had not been through the Center. I was so amazed at the amount of information! It was presented in a fun, interactive way. Made me want to do more exploring in my backyard!
My wife and I stopped in the Geotourism Center in Driggs. The place had recently opened up and the displays were brand new and pretty cool. It highlighted areas around the Teton Valley and the center offered a lot of useful information to use while in the area. It is a nice quick stop to get info and the staff was very friendly.
This visitor center enjoyed their grand opening in August 2014. It showcases local history, local information, as well as activities to do in the region (by season!). Many of the displays are interactive. There are about five monitors with short 3-6 minute video clips to augment the section. We visited in winter, and it was just as interesting to see the avalanche/backcountry display as it was to see what people enjoy doing during summer. If you find yourself in Driggs, why not stop in for ten or 20 minutes?
In early September, we stayed at a B&B place in Victor ID cuz we did not want to pay $150 per night at a 3-star hotel Jackson. Wondered into downtown Driggs and was attracted by the farmers market in front of the Teton Geotourism Center. It is a small museum and unofficial visitor center. The exhibits explained the early settler families and industries evolved over the past 150 years. The 1976 Teton dam collapse probably made the national headline for this less glamorous part of Teton valley. The reps at the center was very helpful, gave us idea how to spend our day as tourists, gave us two $5 coupon to the ski lift tickets at Grand Targhee Ski Resort, where we were awed with the panoramic view of Teton peaks. They also pointed us to Peaked Sports a block away where we rented an inflatable kayak and drifted down the Teton River for couple hours. There were very few tourists in the area after the Labor Day weekend, felt like we had the mountain top and river all by ourselves.
