Traveling in the Boise area and looking for a diversion? The District 44 Wineries may have just the experience you are looking for. District 44 Wineries are located in Garden City which is just a short drive from the downtown Boise convention area. These edgy urban wineries run by 5 young up and coming winemakers, two female in the growing group of women vintners, offer a great sampling of locally produced wines. In addition to pushing the creative boundaries in wine making with encapsulated yeast use to make Rizza, one tasting room, Split Rail is also beer friendly and offers local micro-brews for the non-wine drinker. However, don't confuse the growler with being beer friendly, as this one is for wine! The wineries include Cinder, Syringa, Split Rail Telaya, and Coiled. Hours vary. Visitors can consult Face Book (District 44 Wineries) for information or contact individual tasting rooms. The Boise Weekly gives a pretty solid review: http://www.boiseweekly.com/boise/garden-citys-new-wine-district/Content?oid=3069041

Split Rail is just one of five wineries that make up the District 44 wine area. Located in Garden City, which is literally next door to the state's largest city, Boise, these innovative winemakers and their tasty wines make this a must-stop in your travels to southwest Idaho. Jed Glavin, of Split Rail is no different. Among the unique features of this still-small winery are the wine growlers available under the Strange Folks label and the local micro brews on tap. Jed himself is beer-friendly, explaining, "I actually like a beer after a hard day's work." After visiting with Jed, be sure to check out Coiled which is located across the back alley. While there winemaker Leslie Preston will be happy to show and talk about Rizza, her new sparkling wine.
