The Harriman family, thanks to their railroad fortune, held large tracts of property that ultimately were donated to the public. In it as true in NY as it is here, in Idaho on the Henry's Fork River. This section of river is well known around the world for its large and very fussy trout. But in addition to the fishing there's camping, lodging and yurts for rent. and in winter this is a wonderful cross country ski destination. In summer there's many miles of hiking and wildlife to be seen. An inheritance and gift we should be thankful for.

The views are breathtaking and the self-guided tour of the historic ranch was fascinating. The $5 fee gets you into Mesa Falls and Henry Lake State Park.

This is a world class fly fishing destination and is well worth a visit if you're in the area, and enjoy fly fishing. It was on my fishing bucket list and I was glad to check it off in 2014.

I loved the simplicity of the trails. I mountain biked one weekend, then took the kids and hiked the second weekend. We enjoyed the flowers, the wildlife and the scenery. Next time, I would love to take the horses.

It was a pleasant walk through the woody area around the pond areas. The old railroad work house area was well kept and interesting to view. The interior was not open during the week but peeking through the windows gave a view to times past. If you enjoy solitude and greenery and wildlife viewing, this is one of the places to be!

We had a 4 hours horse ride with the outfit that is located within the park. I can't recall the name. It was perfect! We got to ride a huge portion of the park. Went all the way to the top of the highest peak in the park. The views were spectacular. In the 4 hours we were out on horseback, we never saw a single person. Great way to spend the afternoon.

We visited the park and enjoyed a nice hike. We stopped at the park office two different times and were surprised to not find it open.

Did a hike here and enjoyed it, nice location and beautiful views. However, the office was supposed to be open 8-5 and no one was ever there.

You can overnight, hike, ride horses (rent there or bring your own), experience a little history, take in the wildlife and fly fish. Nice ranger programs offered.

A very serene place to enjoy nature and feel a part of history. You can walk, bike, or ride horses on trails. The fishing is 5 star. The state park service provides informational (free) tours of the various buildings. The docents were well informed and enthusiastic. You never know when you'll turn the corner and see wildlife.

I take my daughter here a few times a year and we absolutely love it. Gorgeous views, and the wranglers are amazing...even with my young daughter. You can tell they take care of and care about their animals, unlike some of the other riding facilities in Island Park. I can't recommend this place enough. 10 out of 10.

This is a must see place while you are in Island Park. It is filled with beauty and historic houses, artifacts and a peek back into a developing time in the state of Idaho. There are special tours of beautiful cabins which hosted celebrities all over the world taking you back into an era that has long passed but not forgotten.Hiking, birding, fishing and even horseback riding is available. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the wonderful picnic areas.

Developed as a "ranch" by millionaires Harriman, Googenheim and others this is a must see in Island Park. Docent tours of the "cabins" are offered on the weekend, free of charge. The view of the Tetons, with the Snake River flowing by is absolutely breathtaking. Hiking trails, flowers, birds, lakes, fishing are all available. They also offer excellent horseback riding adventures at a very good price. The small admission fee also includes Mesa Falls, which is across Hwy 20 nearby. These falls are easily accessible and there is a fun gift shop there.

We spent 5 days in the Cattle Foreman's House: 3 bedrooms, living room, one bath, and fully equipped kitchen. Very nice accommodations and great launching pad for trail biking, hiking, fishing, and kayaking. Moose, Sandhills and wild turkeys in front yard every morning. Horses in pasture while sun set. Bring your own food supplies as local shopping limited. Insect repellent a must. Rather disappointed that advertised "wifi" in park was not working and has not for several months. Had we known or been advised, we would have made other (i.e., data plan from our provider) plans. That said, we really enjoyed the visit. Bring your bikes and plan to kayak/ canoe down the Henry Fork using the rentals from Mac's Inn. Park's staff/Rangers are friendly and helpful. Kid friendly.

Went cross country skiing here with a group of Boy Scouts. Wonderful variety of trails for all levels of abilities. If you ski into the Jones House you can have hot drinks for a small fee, use the bathroom and look through the binoculars that are setup in the house. They also have a host in the house who usually has a fire going in the wood stove and can answer any questions. The house has rooms with historical items and activities for kids. The staff typically groom the trails through mid-March and have ski patrol on site. You can count on seeing ducks, geese and usually swans. You also have a chance of seeing other wildlife.It's also an excellent place to visit year round. The yurts are fun to stay in but you have to plan ahead because the are reserved far in advance. Great way to spend the day or a few days.
