We fished with WWB tournament.. We had a blast..It was a first time with our group..the captain of our boat Eric was wonderful. And our bait guy Cody was also great..hope to go again next year..It was a blast.
Spent two days fishing for steelhead last week. Picked MRO because they fish from drift boats. They have a couple of rooms right behind the office which I found comfortable and convenient. I'm a fly fisherman so wanted to swing some flies and get some help with my Spey casting. John was an excellent and personable guide. We enjoyed our time together and netted 3 beautiful wild fish.
Visiting from Southeastern Florida....we didn't know what to expect. Everything far exceeded our expectations. Booked a 2 day steelhead fishing trip and lucked out to get the owner as our guide. Well run operation from start to finish. Very impressed. Best part is he helped us catch 10 FISH!!!! Wow what an experience! If u r ever in Idaho, this would be a must do. Thank you mountain river outfitters!!!
My wife and I recently returned from a 3 night and 4 day float trip down the Snake river near Riggins, Idaho. The float included fishing for a variety of fish, and hunting for chukars. Mountain River Outfitters did an outstanding job from booking the trip, informing us of what we would need to bring and making each day a very pleasant experience. The owners, guides and camp crew were very professional and accommodating to any special request we may have had and tailored each day to what we wanted to focus on whether it was fishing or hunting or just floating down the Snake.Would highly recommend these outfitters.
We did a 2-day run on the Salmon with MRO. They took very good care of us! It was my kids' first rafting trip (8 & 5 yo). The guide (Michelle) and our supplier/cook (Luke) were fabulous. We felt very safe, taken care of, while also allowed to push ourselves at the same time! All the gear was in great shape, and the guides had a lot of experience in planning and customer service. They supplied and set up all the camping gear, which was all top quality. We ate really well - beautiful buffets for each lunch, filet mignon and Dutch oven baked macaroni and cheese (adult and kids versions). We also could let them know ahead of time our soda and drinking preferences. While we didn't have any, they would have accommodated any food preferences. The kids were never bored- and were always kept safe - from the rapids, to playing with the boats (they also brought along an inflatable kayak), watching for wildlife, learning new songs and games, stopping on the beaches and playtime, setting up camp, etc. The river beaches are made of the most beautiful powder white sand and round river rocks. We stayed at the Big Iron hotel two doors down, which was great. We brought too many clothes - you really only need bathing suits, warm stuff for the evenings.
We took the two day rafting trip down the Salmon River with MRO and absolutely loved every minute of it! The river itself was spectacular -and surrounded by designated wilderness areas. We saw amazing wildlife including bears, bighorn sheep and a large variety of fascinating birds. MRO paced the trip well as we had ample time for stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, resting, hiking and--of course-- rafting. The rapids were between levels 2-4 when we went (late August). Our guides (John and Luke) were outstanding and incredibly knowledgeable about the river, wildlife and culture of the area. The food and camping location was first-rate. They handled all the cooking and camp set-up so we could just enjoy and chill out under the Milky Way. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this trip and MRO to anyone!
Did the 2 day rafting trip with Mountain River Outfitters and was outstanding from start to finish! John, our guide, was excellent! Funny, full of facts, good cook. I was quite surprised that they would run the trip with only 3 of us, but they did and it was amazing! The food was delicious, there's something about dutch oven cooking that can't be beat. I could go on and on but you'll just have to try it out for yourselves! Thank you again for a wonderful adventure!
This was our first rafting adventure, so we did not know what to expect. We fell into MRO because there was a screw-up in reservations with the first place we contacted....What Luck!! We did a 2-day adventure with Heather & George running the rafts. We were pampered with excellent service and hospitality from start to finish. The meals were fantastic, and scenery unmatched. We tried our hand at kayaking, and we are now members of the Salmon River Swim Team!!I can't recommend Brenda and her 1st class staff enough......You can't go wrong with MRO!!Thank you all for a GREAT time!!!
This review is for a full day trip on the Salmon River. Brenda, one of the owners of Mountain River Outfitters (MRO), was our first contact when scheduling the trip and she was courteous and helpful. She got us booked quickly and the check-in was done via internet forms, so when it was time to go we just showed up and signed in. I had wanted to come earlier in the season so the higher flows would make for a more exciting trip, but as it turned out, early August was a good trip to get my wife, who is mildly apprehensive with water activities, reacquainted with rafting. The rapids were exciting but not scary, and the water was warm, especially at Fiddle Creek Hot Springs :-), so we could get a wave in the face and not be too cold. Also, with the lower flow, I was allowed to get out of the boat and swim through one of the rapids. It was a fairly clean train of several 4-5 foot tall waves, but I was questioning my decision about halfway through. In the end, I was glad I did it.We came the day before and stayed overnight in one of the rooms that MRO has behind their office. It was very clean, with kitchen and bath. I thought it was a good value for the money. We ate dinner at a dive (good sandwich, but dirty, loud, and slow), then walked across the street and down to the Seven Devils Steak house (where we should have eaten!) to listen to an excellent musician on the outdoor patio. Next day, we loaded up our drinks in a small cooler (you can bring your own beverages as long as they are in aluminum cans) and loaded up on buses for the short trip upriver to the launch point. We sat up front and were able to get to know our guides, Ryan and Molly, a bit during the drive. They were both friendly, smiled a lot, and one was very sweet and one was a real character. They provided the right balance of both conversation and quiet to allow you to enjoy the rugged beauty of the canyons. There were a few hours of rapids and floating, followed by a delicious lunch. My wife is a self proclaimed cookie snob and only tried one of the cookies because I had brought it to her. She ate it, mine, our friends' and went back for more. She even said Brenda's cookies rivaled her own! After lunch, back on the water for a water fight (be sure you are in the raft that has "the weather gage" before you start anything) some larger rapids, fun floating, the swim through one of the rapids, and some practical jokes. At the take out point there was some funny smell, which a guide said was a group of people upwind, trying to agitate some type of "river skunk"; thus, they quickly hussled up the loading to get us out of there before the smell got on our clothes. I hope the skunk didn't hurt anybody. I heard someone say those skunks are more plentiful in Washington and Colorado, but they appear to have a foothold in other areas as well. Back into the van for a short trip back to town, a few goodbyes to the guides and it was over, but what a great day!
Mountain River Outfitters is an excellent company. My experience was outstanding from start to finish. Brenda, who took our reservations, was conscientious and professional. She was responsive and attentive, and followed up consistently. We did the full day trip down the Salmon. Steven our guide was outstanding. Do yourself a favor and ask for him. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the Salmon River and its history as well as the history of the region. He sensed when my teenagers were getting bored and engaged them in games and fun diversions. On a scale of 1 to 10 this group is a 12. If you want excitement, go in May or June when the water is high. If you are looking for a tamer experience, go in August. You won't be sorry!
Fantastic day on the salmon river with Jon as our guide. Great scenery, just the right amount of white water, great banter, loads of info and superb lunch. Can't recommend them enough.
No words can even begin to describe this experience. The combination of beauty, instant relaxation and excitement was like nothing I have ever experienced. Our two day rafting trip was more of a vacation to myself and teenage son than any vacation either of us has EVER been on. The guides Elizabeth, Luke, and George were fantastic and the food was amazing. All we had to do was show up and they took care of the rest. I felt completely pampered and relaxed. The SUP board and inflatable kayak were great too. There was plenty of time to just float, fish, play in the water, and explore. I don't know how we will ever top this vacation!
Michael B.This is my first ever review on the internet for anything. I was so impressed I thought I should take the time to write. I have taken about 10 river rafting guided trips over the years and was extremely impressed with this company. We took a 2 day trip and wish it had been 4 days. The quality of the food, service, and guides are unsurpassed. We intend to revisit this company next year. All of their equipment including the rafts and kayaks are well maintained and seem near new. The town of Riggins has a unique charm to enjoy the night prior. Staff and guide are professional, friendly and helpful. The owners were very helpful in arranging for special transportation needs we had.
Awesome guided trip through Hells canyon! Heather and George were amazing and owner Brenda delightful! Fantastic food (lasagna)! Make sure if you go on a river trip go with the flow and go with MRO! See you next year!
Our group has an annual cycling trip through Eastern Oregon and we thought we would break it up with some Idaho whitewater this year. Based on the reviews, we decided on MRO in Riggins and after talking with Brenda at MRO we decided that this would be a good match for us. There were three people (adults) in our group who had never experienced rafting thru whitewater before and were a little apprehensive about going and the other half of our group were looking for plenty of good whitewater and lots of excitement. We booked a full day trip with George as our guide. It was awesome for both those who had rafted before and those who had not. This is a well run, well organized river rafting company and the Salmon River is breathtaking. Obviously these people have been doing this for a very long time as everything was covered from making sure we were safe to providing with a day that none of us will ever forget. We will be back - no question about that!
