Nothing short of awesome!!!!! White water, wild life and fantastic scenery. A day well spent with knowledgable and pleasant crew.
My wife and I took there all day jet boat trip up the Snake River from Pittsburg Landing to the dam and back. It was a blast (even for us retired grandparents)! We thoroughly enjoyed it. Beautiful scenery and a very capable crew of two made for a wonderful day. We recommend it!
Not only was our cabin attractively decorated and comfortable, served with delicious breakfast outdoors in covered area, but the jet boat ride was absolutely thrilling. The stops at frontier houses broke up the fast ride and gave time to stress legs. The boat driver shared knowledge of area, stopping for animals spotted on shore and gave time for camera shots. Seeing bighorn sheep was a treat! Directions to places were helpful, too, and a desired color for shirt purchase was made possible also. I'd highly recommend Killgord Adventures.
Knowledgable captain and crew - history explanation and detours of these were sites superb! More than expected lifetimeExperience - a true Idaho backcountry adventure!!! A must do and see!! Fun Fun Fun
If you want to travel Hells Canyon, Killgore's Wild River tour is the one to take. Powerful, comfortable jet boats and captains that really know the river in all its moods. This is one of the few tours that goes all the way up to the dam and back, where we ate a great box lunch. Surprising scenery, history, wildlife and splashing-good rapids-running fun. Just the 45-minute trip into and back from the boat landing (pay the small fee for the shuttle ride so you can enjoy the scenery) is a scenic adventure.
Arrive early for check in at White Bird because there is little signage to find it and you will need to drive 17 miles of scenic gravel road to the Pittsburg Landing on the Snake River where your 36-passenger jetboat awaits along with a 2-person crew and many members of the Killgore family who may join you just for fun! Everyone is most helpful. The trip to the Hells Canyon dam offers many opportunities to view wildlife - we saw big-horned sheep, coyotes, a black bear and deer in the river cooling themselves off in the afternoon sun. There were 2 or 3 Class III rapids in early September, lots of fun in the jet boat, because you can go back and do them again! Be ready to experience some serious wet fun if you sit in the front center. You can stay dry if you sit in rear center (but why do that?) Wear a swimsuit under your shorts because there is a stop at a nice beach for a cool swim.
The whole experience was fantastic. My daughter loved being able to swim in the Snake river during a stop, and stoping to visit historic sites along the river. The boat hands were friendly and helpful.
Most of the reviews are for Kilgore's jetboat tours; we spent the night at their 6-room inn. We arrived late to find a welcome sign on each door (we rented 4 rooms). Rooms a little on the small side but price and kitchenette made up for size. Laundromat conveniently located a few doors down. Had the private beach to ourselves and floated in the warm river. Outdoor continental breakfast was perfect. FYI -- not much to eat in White Bird -- BYO food and cook or dine in Riggins or Grangeville.
We stayed here while we did a jet boat run from Pittsburgh landing in Hells Canyon up to the dam. We had some family in the cabins which were adequate and some that stayed in an RV. Rv park as a whole is a nice place backs up next ro the river with plenty of sandy beach to spend some family fun. Owner operator atmosphere. Half of the RV spaces are in gravel the other more tress and grass so try to get the grassy spots as they are nicer. The cabins were adequate, beds on the hard side. Jet boat tour was fun, boat was better than others we've been on, lunch on the boat was excellent, captain was friendly and nice however some may like a little more commentary on the scenery though. Overall would stay again.
Several members of our HOG chapter recently took the jet boat ride with Killgore Adventures -- we loved it!! This is the 2nd year for this outing. Some of the people enjoyed it so much last year that they booked it again this year. We embarked on an all day adventure up the Snake River with stops to hear about and explore historical landmarks, as well as a stop to cool off in the river along a sandy beach. Lunch is provided and dietary needs can be accommodated if you contact Killgore's office at least a couple of days in advance. Staff is very knowledgeable, skilled and friendly. Plan to have a fun day and... you will definitely get wet going through the rapids!!We stayed at the RV park and took the shuttle bus to the boat dock, which is at the end of a forest road. Our driver did an excellent job of maneuvering the large school bus along the forest road to and from the RV park.
Killgore's Jet Boat tours of Hell's Canyon are well organized, safe and very comfortable. There are lots of washroom stops, and the lunches were filling, good and can include a vegetarian option if you call ahead. There is no need to take water or soft drinks because lots are provided.Don't pay for the shuttle bus to take you to the launch site because the drive there and back is stunningly beautiful and fun to drive. The road is narrow and winding but not scarey with long vistas and dramatic changes in altitude. On the boat ride we saw deer, an eagle and a family or two of big horned sheep. The pilot was patient and rotated the boat slowly so that all could see and the photographers could take pictures. As for the best seats:If you want to stay dry, choose the front middle bench seats. If you'd like to get a bit damp, sit along either side near the back but where you can watch the pilot manage the controls. If you would enjoy getting wet, sit behind the pilot at the very back.
Our book club took Killgore Adventures' Wild River Tour May 22, 2014. Our expectations were exceeded! This company is a joy to work with! For example, our group was too large to stay at the Killgore Lodge, so they guided us to excellent accomodations in Grangeville. The staff treated us with generous amounts of TLC. The tour was beyond gorgeous, lunch was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the stops at the beautiful old ranches. Our group was served an excellent BBQ at Killgore's White Bird headquarters before we hopped on our bus for home. Run (don't walk) to Killgore Adventures.
We stayed at the RV park and took the shuttle to the Snake River. It was very convienent and alot of fun. Highly recommend it.
We enjoyed the jet boat tour of Hells Canyon, about a 7 hour tour, which was plenty long enough in the heat. The Killgore tour starts in White Bird, ID, which is a remote and beautiful area of western ID. The canyon itself is beautiful, dark basalt looming. It's not the same thunder-struck beauty as the grand canyon, but awesome in its own right. This is a family run operation, really nice folks. We stayed at their motel for two nights--not fancy, but clean and comfortable. We were in the middle of a car camping trip, so we just cooked our own meals outside at the picnic tables. I saw a deer enjoying some of the grass right near the motel. The office manager (Killgore mom) was very kind--let us re-freeze our ice packs in the office freezer and told some great hunting/hiking stories.
Have had a shuttle business in the Canyon for over 30 years, and know many of the outfitters personally. Your company has helped ours out numerous times and we have never taken the time to let you know how much we appreciate your service. We had a rafter leave his extra key in the passenger door of his car and was worried for days that our service would not see the key. Heather called and let our company know where the key was located and where to put the key so he could drive out of Pittsburg Landing. Heather and Kurt, thank you so much. Your quick response led to a happy ending.............Scotty and Diana Jensen/Hells Canyon Shuttle
