For anyone who grew up reading Jack O'Connor stories in Outdoor Life, this will take you back. They have done a great job arranging stories, rifles, and mounts from his travels. The volunteers that staff the Center are always very knowledgable and enjoyable to talk with. I have been twice (maybe an hour of my time), and will likely return.
A great place to have meetings. It overlooks the Snake River and has a lot of historical items to look at as well as some stuffed critters.
Good place to learn more about the area history, great guns and nice display of what appears to be one of the worlds great hunters.
Enjoyed all the stations inside, the history and interactive areas. Learn about Jack O'Connor and his wife who hunted side by side with him. The stuffed animals are beautiful.
My husband read his short stories in Life Magazine and Outdoor Life when he was young, so to see this Center was a must. Admission to the overall park is $5. & that includes admission the the Center. The Center is very well displayed and educational. The docent was very knowledgeable and interesting. For hunters and wild life management and preservation, the education here is a must. It is a short drive out of Lewiston on Snake River.
I recall the name well . He was one of the outdoor, hunting authors I read as a kid (in the fifties). He was from this area and often the people staffing this museum worked with or for him and might share anecdotes. He was strong willed and could be a little grumpy around the edges but he was also a nationally known editor and hunting advocate. He ran with the A list. The museum itself is also involved with local clubs, events and such.
A great collection of Jack's days as an author and writer for Outdoor Life magazine, His worldwide travels are well chronicled to include much of his life traveling and hunting with his wife.
