dose not fit in to the beautiful natural setting of the area, it is way to bright with an ugly blue at night time , the rails are just high enough that in todays small cars you can only see ahead of you even as a passenger.
I have run, cycled, and walked over this bridge for the last three years. It is so recreation friendly and photogenic. I love the view at the top.
What a nice couple of days with friends. We stayed in the cottages and were impressed! For a state park, I was not expecting the amenities the cottages provided...dishwasher, washer/dryer, screened in porch on the water, room for 6. We stayed in "the loft" and it was a little tricky getting up the steps, but plenty of room when you got up there. I would go back again. The lawn looks a little dry and brown when you walk up, but the inside and the views make up for the curb appeal. Make sure you have your fishing license with you if you are fishing out back, as we had to show ours when the game wardens stopped to chat with us (nice boys). On the way in they are adding a bunch of new campsites, so a little "under construction" on the way over to the beach, but I would recommend the Cottages, we had a great, laid back, relaxing time!
What can you say, its a bridge!!! But as far as bridges go, it was scenic driving over. I remember when it was just a small bridge and took a long time to go over.
Always the landmark we have to tell us that we're almost there. Although it took a bit to get the job done, this bridge, at night, with its blue lights is really a sight!
I like going to Indian River Inlet for more then just looking at the bridge. It's a nice new one thanks to Sandy... but I like the beach on the north side of the beach the best! It's quiet and usually not that crowded. We were there in June 2014 and they are apparently putting in camping spots so it's a bit "under construction" right now. We did wander over to the south side of the bridge and that spot has a bathroom, snack bar, and a quiet beach as well. We saw some dolphins in the inlet as well so that was pretty cool. I find it more relaxing to hang out there instead of the huge crowds at Rehoboth or Bethany Beach.
After several starts and stops the Delaware Department of Transportation finally pulled victory from the jaws of defeat. (Lots of back story here about the failed attempts to get this bridge built, but much too long for here.) Suffice it to say that the bridge is very beautiful and provides a great visual backdrop as you drive along Route 1 headed to Dewey or Bethany Beach. It shines like blue diamonds in the night and is really a striking bit of structure juxtaposed with the scrub brush and sand dunes between you and the ocean. Two lanes in each direction with a bike/hiking path along the East side makes it a great way to see the ocean or the bay from a new perspective. It makes for great photos anytime and somehow makes my spirits soar each time I see it!
This is the newest landmark structure in Southern Delaware. Very beautiful bridge. At night it is lit up with blue lights, and it sparkles from miles away!
Nana. Many activities. Fishing, bathing, day fishing, dining. Even Rv and camping. Cabin rentals. A beautiful natural site.
A gorgeous new structure the Indian River Inlet Bridge is pretty both night and day. The visuals are worthy of a stop and photo opportunity. This is our Golden Gate in miniature... very miniature. For some it may simply be a highway apparatus but for those with more romantic eyes and with memories of a youth (25 years ago) spent working and living there in the summer it is a clear marker of progress and development that has occurred. As for biking the bridge is quite capable or accommodating either a road or a safer sidewalk pass. It depends on your level of aptitude, physical and psychological comfort with your bike and traffic as to your choice. In short, it is less than a 45 degree climb that is quite easy to make for the average intermediate biker and the breeze to and fro is refreshing. I will warn that if you travel at night it is best to stay out of the road as you never know the random nature of traffic. And lastly, I would note that there are still glass and nail remnants of the last hurricane and recent construction. I punctured 2 tires on my way northbound. The first occurring 1 mile from the bridge (July 2013). Besides that... I loved it. You can see the camp areas as you approach from the south and as you continue you find the dunes and inlets for the kayaks and row boats. Beware of the famous brisk breeze... I enjoyed it and found it refreshing.
As bridges go, it is quite attractive, especially at night. It has great paths to walk or bike over it too. The area surrounding it has lots going on with fishing, beach access, marina access with a cute bar. I love it at night though, so pretty as it lights up the sky with its blue lights and red flashing lights on top. Quite a landmark.
We camp at the campground next to the bridge and we always try to get a site with a view of the bridge. It is beautiful at night with the lights. We enjoy walking along the jetty path under the bridge, the water is amazing, strong currents rushing through. We just love it.
Great place to fish. Just sit back and enjoy the view. Place is very clean and easy to access. Caught some nice flounder in about 3 hours.
I marvel every time I cross this bridge. It is beautifully lit up at night. There is a great path to walk along to cross the bridge. The view on the bridge is amazing. I love looking at mile and miles of Delaware beaches. We decided to park in the area before the bridge only to find out it is actually a state park. We decided to spend the day there. The beach was beautiful and amenities were amazing.
After a long wait, it has finally come! Be sure to take a drive when it is dark to see the beautiful light!
