My mom and I decided to play Tourist for the day and loved the idea of a short boat ride on the Canal to remind us of the beautiful area in which we live. It provided a refreshing change of pace from the hectic beach-life in summer season. Made reservations in advance {though I am not sure it is necessary} and the dock is easy to find--located between the Wharf and Irish Eyes--on Lewes Canal. Lots of covered, yet open air, seating. The Captain and Mate were friendly and narrated sights along the way. I believe they also offer regular travel routes to Rudder Town in Dewey (can catch the Jolly Trolly into Rehoboth Avenue) and sunset cruises.
My college friends (all Boomers) and I get together every year, and this year included a boat trip with Capt Dave down the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. Despite cool, cloudy and slightly breezy weather, we had an amazing time. Everywhere we looked we saw birdlife -- endless blue herons, great egrets, and various hawks. As we munched our lunch, Capt Dave gave us some interesting history about the area, plus some wildlife information -- personable, relaxed, friendly. Terrific host and captain! I also appreciate the fact that he went out of his way to accommodate our group so late in the season.
My work place decided to rent out the Cape Water Taxi for a couple of hours on a Tuesday night. They picked us up within our area and traveled all over the bay. The ride was smooth and the captain and his assistant were so pleasant. There was plenty of seating for everyone and extra tables so we could set up our food. Music was piped through the entire time. We had a blast watching the sunset. Would love to go again.
My wife and I have taken the Sunset Cruise a few times and have never been disappointed.Just recently went on the "Live" music cruise with our 3 year old grandaughter and had a blast! She has now become a Kevin Mack fan!He was extremely delightful to listen to and had a lot of patience with her.Couldn't have planned a better evening!Kudos to Capt. Dave and crew for a very enjoyable evening!
My husband and I signed up for the Lewes to Bay cruise that leaves at 4:30 in the afternoon. Buying tickets online is very easy! If you arrive a little early don't worry, you can board the vessel and watch the world go by. The cruise itself is an enjoyable outing up the canal to the Rehoboth Bay. Plenty to see and the Captain and his mate point out interesting things along the way. The cruise takes about 2 1/2 hrs and is on a covered boat. I would highly recommend this to tourists and natives alike! They have an excellent website.
This was so enjoyable. A leisurely cruise that lasts about 2 hours to watch the sunset. Lots of herons and osprey nests along the way. I wish we had thought to take along food and drink......! You are free to take along anything, including wine and beer. Friendly crew. Very reasonable too.
Just returned from a great Eco Tour that took us down the Cancel in Lewes and back in about an hour and a half with Cape Water Taxi. Capt Dave was an outstanding guide/teacher pointing out numerous birds. He also pulled up crab;oyster; fish etc and gave great information about them and the salt marsh in general. Two kids ages 12 & 9 absolutely LOVED this trip as did the two adults. Highly recommend this and we will book other of their tours
Had a wonderful Delaware Bay Discovery cruise today. The crew members were very personable and informative. Spent about 2 3/4 hours in the bay and canal trawling for sea creatures to examine and just seeing the beauty of the Delaware Bay. Saw a number of osprey and even some dolphins. We would absolutely take another cruise with Cape Water Taxi and would highly recommend them to others who want a relaxing but fun time on the water.
My family and I booked the sunset cruise and had a lovely time. Captain Dave and DJ were awesome hosts and very knowledgable. We arrived early and were able to site a one of the on board tables. You can bring snacks, dinner, wine, etc. We bought a picnic basket with wine, cheese and crackers and were able to take a ton of stunning photos of the sun setting over the water.
We had some life long friends in town and wanted to do something a little different and relaxing. After reading the reviews we booked the sunset cruise. It was the perfect night. We brought our dinner and drinks on board and the crew accommodated us with smiles and great conversation. We had narrative with a history lesson about the area, throughout the cruise. At the perfect moment,Captain Dave stopped the boat and we all quietly watched the sunset, taking photos with our friends and loved ones. If there were more than 5 stars I would rate it even higher! Thanks for the memories Captain David. We will be doing many more tours with you!!
Captains Dave and JD couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful! They were attentive to the needs of each person on board our cruise. The boat was spacious and comfortable. We brought our dinner and beverages, and set about a beautiful cruise into the sunset. We loved the personal conversations with Dave and JD. They were both exceptionally knowledgeable about the entire area and also took an interest in where the passengers were from. Much better than a lot of other tours where we were talked at anonymously over a loud speaker. What a great time. Thanks!
Thank you Capt Dave and crew for a fabulous sunset cruise. Your generous contribution to the Overfalls Lightship enabled so many friends to gather for a evening of fun and laughter. We hope everyone has the opportunity to pay it forward and book several more cruises! It is a true asset to Lewes.
Love the cape water taxi tours in Lewes. Been on a sunset and eco tour, can't say enough about how friendly the staff is and how interesting the tours are. Keep up the good work Cape Water Taxi.
Whether you live in or are visiting Lewes, the Cape Water Taxi is an absolute must. With family or friends, they are friendly, accommodating and show you parts of the shore that you can't see anywhere else. We paid the same to get into Dewey Beach as we would have for a cab, and the Water Taxi was the best part of the visit!
My husband and I have been on the Cape Water Taxi 3 times! Twice to go back and forth to Dewey when friends came to visit and once on a romantic sunset cruise. Staff is very informative and accommodating. Made reservations easily and parking was plentiful. Boat was clean and roomy. Can't wait to go again.
