This old church was an unexpected treat. Don't expect anything grand or on a large scale. Do expect a visit to a historical site which has a great history and is a key component to the "New Sweden" element of the history of the U. S. This is church and grounds which are tucked away a bit but worth taking the side trip if you have an interest in history. When you arrive here you will find a beautiful mid-size church built around 350 years ago, a fairly large cemetery surrounding much of the church and an adjoining building which is a combo of an admin site, museum and very small store. It is all incredibly well maintained.If you stop by you will find them quite willing to give a personal tour and the tour can likely be tailored to fit your available time and preferences. This was quite a treat and we can't thank our guide enough for the incredible tour she provided.If you have an interest in Swedish heritage as it pertains to the U.S. this is all the more fascinating and worthwhile.

despite being a bit out of the way, a day trip to Old Swedes Church is worth the effort. The tour is very informative and you get to ring the bell as an added treat. The graveyard is a compendium of Wilmington history. The tour guide is well informed and loves to have people of Swedish descent stop by.

Very well maintained and still active parish from the 1700's. The guide will give some great insight to the early history of the Swedish settlers and the times. The building itself is quite interesting with the buttresses added to maintain it's stability. Nice one hour tour.

I've seen this church back in the 50's on a school trip, we had a test on this the next week I remembered some of the tour I got a C on my test . it goes back to the 1700th hundreds of North America an the colonies . the parking is not that great so come early. the graves go back to the 1690's an they are taken care of them very good, there are no fees so the tours ask for a donation so please help .

This is the oldest continually used church is the USA, and as such has a pretty fascinating story to tell. Got taken around by a nicest guide who gave me a great history of the site and even let me ring the bells in the tower. Highly recommend this on any tour of Delaware where there's some interest in history.

Found this little gem in Wilmington during a visit to the Philadelphia area. It is a remarkable historic site, which dates back to the late 1600s. It was the heart of Swedish attempt to colonize a portion of North America. Incredible history, amazing site, and a dedicated nonprofit group helping keep the history alive. Our tour guide was exceptionally nice and knowledgable. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Wilmington area and appreciate colonial era history "off the beaten path."

We were visting the area and stopped at this historic church near the river in Wilmington. The church was built in 1698 by the Swedes who controlled the area at that time. It is an interesting small church with lovely stained glass windows and the oldest pulpit in the US. Around the church is a large burial grounds with many historic markers. The church and the 1690 Hendricks House can be seen with a guided tour for a donation of $5. The church is still in use and has weekly services and scheduled concerts during the year. There is a small parking lot near the church.

Vi var på rundresa i USA i sommar och besökte även Wilmington och då passade vi på att besöka Old Swedes Church. Vi hade turen att komma precis när guiden kom för att öppna kl 10. Vi tittade på kyrkogården med en mängd gamla gravstenar med svenska namn. Lite speciellt eftersom vi är från Sverige. Vi fick även gå in i kyrkan och i Hendrickson House där det kostade 5 dollar per person i donation. Där fanns det även svenska böcker och souvenirer att köpa. Stort tack till den duktiga guiden som visade oss runt. Kyrkan är fortfarande i gång och där har man gudtjänster och Luciafirande i december.
