The Schwartz Center for the Arts was built in the early 1900s as an opera house, and as the year went on, eventually became a movie theater. This building was closed up for many years due to the lack of renovations, and was restored in the 1990s to its original glory. It is a small venue with wonderful seating and great acoustics. Performances have included plays, concerts, musical entertainment, etc., but the best productions, in my opinion, are the ones performed by Delaware ballet companies from all over the State. There is a ballet to be performed in April called "Pippi Longstocking," choreography based on the TV series of years back. "Peter Pan" has also been presented along with "Alice in Wonderland," "Swan Lake," "Twilight" "Cinderella" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," all ballet productions that offer children and adults wonderful performances. Visit the Schwartz Center for great entertainment!
I visited the center with my wife to watch a play. The place is very clean and staff there is always very accommodating and pleasant. This is a nice place to attend if you’re not looking for young drama overall a classy establishment.
We have attended various performances at the Schwartz. We have no complaints other than the lack of sufficient ladies rooms. The ones they have get crowded very quickly during intermission.
The seating, acoustics, and overall decor is quite alluring. This is one of Dover's little gems!!! This theatre offers many types of entertainment, including plays...check it out, you won't be sorry!
Pick up a schedule of events at the Schwartz; you are sure to find some productions to your liking. Actors are top rate and the musicians excellent. They have specials that would interest blacks and latinos and their Christmas production is always top rate.
This place is just the right size for Dover. Our son's graduation was held here and it was just the perfect size
Restored to it's original beauty, and a great venue for all of the shows that they schedule
Now cnoverted to a theatre. Owned by Wesley College, City of Dover. Excellent shows but check the schedule
I took my friend here for a concert of her choice as her birthday gift. I thought the theater was very nice. It is small, and I liked that, it felt like a very intimate venue. No matter where you sat, you had a good seat. The acoustics were wonderful. I understand that the theater had undergone a lot of renovation, and what was so nice was that it appeared to have been restored to its original glory, having been built as an opera house in 1904. Parking is easy, close by, and free. I am looking for another chance to go back, this is a nice place to enjoy a performance.
