Great srop! Best information center. Helpful and courteous staff. If you are traveling through southeastern Utah, you should stop by.
To be honest, it didn't occur to me to review a visitor's center, which is a shortcoming on my part. I guess I take such places for granted, and that's too bad. In any case, if you're coming to this part of Utah it is imperative that you stop here. The center isn't large, but it's packed with information and what isn't on display is stored in the memory of the staff. I asked questions about a couple of obscure locations and the gentleman not only knew what I was talking about, but he pulled out a photocopied map of the area I was looking for (House on Fire Ruins). The bathrooms are clean and there are museum-quality displays of historical information. I was amazed and grateful. (You will be grateful too--make a generous donation and pay it forward for the next visitors.) And, I saw Tesla stations in the parking lot. In Blanding, UT!
We made about a 30 minute stop driving through Monument Valley to Moab. The same wonderful host that day was Mr Lyman as was in July 2010 when I stopped in going the reverse on this route. The place has historical exhibits of the area as well as a beautiful huge petrified wood specimen. Sales consist of books, maps, the usual trinkets, clothing, etc. He gave us info about the surrounding area and what to do but we had to press on north. Donations accepted for the upkeep. Excellent bathroom stop, plenty of parking. Will plan to stop in again and explore Blanding more per his suggestions.
I drove into Blanding on a Saturday evening and found the visitor centre to be excellent, just as the many other postings have said. But I must reiterate what a previous poster said about the town itself, which became very handy for me. Blanding does not have many restaurants at all, especially in the evening and Yak's (the breakfast place) was of course closed on Sunday. The visitor centre people and the motel employees fortunately told me to dash over to the soon-to-close supermarket to pick up food for the next day, as I was travelling to Torrey and Capitol Reef NP - more than 300 kilometres with nary a store or town in sight. Im glad I did! I find it curious that Blanding does not have more facilties geared to us adventurers, as it really is in the midst of a lot of great sites. Just be prepared.
Interesting place. Lots of history of the area. Great stopping place as you travel the road. Clean restrooms.
This is among the best visitor centers in the country. The volunteer ladies at the register are knowledgeable, passionate, helpful, accommodating and super generous with their time. Free WiFi, complimentary computer use, lollipops for the travelers, free maps, brochures, info. Oh, and impeccably maintained restrooms. I was so happy to see that the Visitor Center even has TESLA charging stations for electric cars.
Travels should stop here for a clean rest stop and more importantly a great and friendly place to obtain information. During our many visits to Utah, we ALWAYS stop here. We are always warmly greeted and there is much information available with so many great attractions nearby to visit. This is my first Visitor Center I have reviewed and only did so because of the consistent clean and friendly atmosphere here at Blanding. Well done!
Nice visitor center with plenty of parking for any size unit. Found flyers on all sightseeing area's in the area. Picked up maps to all our destinations and found new ones we hadn't seen before. Very friendly people that work there. A must do to plan a great vacation in the area!
Nice center. We were given another fine recommendation where to eat, such as Homestead Steak House. Directed us to where you can see the sunset, which is at the University on the W. side of town.
We thought a at the Blanding Visitor information would be no more than a quick stop. This place has a nice pioneer display worth having a look at. The information we got helped us plan our stay in Blanding and we loved the old time exhibits of the towns early settlers. Thanks for the tootsie pop too!it is worth the stop, volunteers very friendly and knowledgeable.
Great helpfull resource for information about the town and local sights. Had maps and other literature. Was able to give detailed information on what to do and what to see. A real surprise on being treated like A visitor. Worth the time to stop and discuss
Stop in to the Blanding Visitors Center, if you are looking for a comfortable, clean and inviting area to stop and make plans to enjoy all that the city of Blanding has to offer. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable at the visitor center, and will go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and guide you to several possible destinations within minutes of town. They also had a Tesla charging station, free of charge for my electric car, how can you beat that! Great little town, that is big on hospitality!!
I'm a little cynical about small-town visitor's centers. Most try hard w/ nice people but have little to offer. This place ROCKS! Amazing how much they have in such a little space, but the best are the very knowledgeable people who can share all kinds of hidden gems to discover in the area. GREAT books (but I'm not unbiased!) Lots of free information, too. Don't forget to walk across the street to see the folks at Four Corners Adventures for tons more great local information and adventure opportunities!
This is far more than the average visitor's center. Truly one of the very best I've encountered. The front desk personnel are friendly and helpful, the bookstore is well stocked, the brochures are plentiful, the museum is interesting, and the quilts are always worth viewing. The internet is slowish, but it is available and the room housing the computers is clean and reasonably private. The bathrooms are emaculate - roomy, cleaned regularly, well provided, and hot water is available. We stop here frequently while camping and hiking in the area to clean up, gather our wits, and relax outside in the shade. Highly recommended.
They have maps and guide books and some nice historical displays. They have area books - both pictorial and historical.
