Due to cutback in federal funding, staff are seasonal. We visited on the first day they were open in March 2015. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. The center isn't extensive, but the staff go out of their way to provide information and suggestions for you to get the most from your visit. We thoroughly enjoyed talking with the ranger who shared a wealth of information to our many questions.
Typical park ranger station with lots of info....and restrooms. Good starting point to get to know the park and trails.
As with all national parks, the visitor centre was well put together and educational, but standard (what you'd expect) - so I'd get it 3 stars. But the staff were outstanding, informative, helpful in picking hikes and educating about the parks, and making us excited to be there. Definitly 5 stars for the customer service. Great place to start your visit to the park.
The staff in the visitor center are very polite and friendly. They told us the best route to take to get the best pictures due to lighting.
Best thing we did. Mapped out out journey for the best photography experience in the time we allotted. Very helpful
Helpful staff and limited facilities but a must to get the best out of your visit. Essential restrooms here
Folks were friendly and well informed - typical items available for purchase. Can also get your passbooks stamped here.
Very nice visitor center. We attended a Ranger Talk about the Bighorn Sheep in the area, and it was very interesting. My grand-daughter was getting badges from all the parks we were going to visit.
Good place to stop and relax a bit and learn more about the area and the park. Covered picnic tables and scenic views.
Very nice visitors center and a real help prior to visiting the park. The view across the street is breathtaking!
We stopped by the Island in the Sky Visitor's Center so our boys could get their Junior Ranger booklets. Many parks require the kids to attend a ranger program or watch the park movie but they were able to substitute picking up trash for that. It's a good way for kids to learn not to litter and if they see litter, simply pick it up and throw it out. I'm surprised the Visitor Center isn't bigger because it is a popular district in Canyonlands. The restrooms are outside in port-a-potty fashion. There is a water fountain right inside the Visitor Center but I also noticed visitors filling their water bottles outside and to the left (facing the center). The gift shop portion is pretty small which again is pretty surprising because most people visiting that Visitor Center will not make it to another one that day and may want to load up on souvenirs.
We have found that first stopping at the Visitors Center saves time and enhances the educational experience on our visits to attractions.
I thought the visitor center would be a little better/bigger. Was kind of small, not all that much parking and if you needed to use the bathroom, there's permanent port-a-potties outside.. So there's really no where to wash your hands or get water or anything..
I rated this average because there is no way I'm going to rate anything about Canyonlands in a negative light. There is not much here, just the usual t-shirts and brochures and the restrooms are off premises, so be aware of that before you unload expecting cool and comfy rest rooms at this Visitor Center. There is not much else to say other than pack your food and drink before entering this National Park, because you won't find anything at this Center.
The smallest of the five National Park canyons shops. Quite small, but adequately stocked. Toilets clean and fresh water top up available. Easy to park.
