Rode this on my xt225 motorcycle with a group of friends and it was stunning. Amazing. I was drop jawed in awe most of the time. What an incredible way to see the landscape! A pinnacle moment in my life - it was just that beautiful!

We drove the trail in a single day, and don't regret it, but it would be a lot of fun to take more time. The views of the canyons are stunning and you get so close to the edge, it gives you a real appreciation for how deep they are. We finished our drive in the dark. I got out of the 4wd at a stop and was blown away by the amazing clarity and brightness of the stars. This was a drive I'll never forget.

What everyone else said.......!!!Really good ride but important to be fully prepared for all eventualities ;)

We initially thought we would ride this 105-mile trail on bicycles but a shoulder injury two days before turned me into a SAG wagon driver. We went in October, 2009 and the weather was perfect for all five days of the ride. Our vehicle was 4WD but did not have a low-range capability which was not a good idea. They greatly discourage that now. There are three tough 4-wheel-drive climbs for the support vehicles along with sandwashes and the road is ROUGH and rocky pretty much for the entire length of the trail. Plan carefully, get your camping permits, take plenty of food and water and enjoy the ride. On the other hand, if you're riding it all in one day, good luck! We had a rental Jeep with German tourists come through the first section late at night. They planned to do the entire trail in one night. We didn't find any bodies so we guessed they made it out. We were thinking they were really tired when they did finish.

13 intrepid off road cyclists looked after by Emily & Simon. Trail really good, views fantastic. Guides exceptional, gave advise & looked after us very well in some difficult weather conditions.

The start of this trail is not for the faint of heart! It is a narrow, rough trails the skirt the edge of the rock as you travel down into the canyon. The views are unbelievable! Once you are in to the canyon, the road goes for several miles until you connect with Potash Road. The going is rough and there are plenty of areas where flooding occurs after the rains. Be prepared, make sure you vehicle is properly equipped. We only saw a few other vehicles while we were there...pure paradise all to ourselves. We had lunch amid towering rock, cacti and beautiful silence. There are views of the Colorado River and Dead Horse State Park. Once you get to Potash Road, the pavement returns and you follow the Colorado River back into town. Great way to spend a day!

The white rim trail is a awesome trip that takes a year in planning if you want to camp along the way. You must have a permit for the campsites. To do the trail justice you need to spend at least two nights on the trail. We were rained out last year which is a possibility each and every year but if you get to go it will be a awesome experience! The stars are spectacular and you will talk about this experience for years to come!!!!!

Truly stunning vistas and solitude are the reason to ride White Rim. Assess your conditioning and experience honestly before you decide on riding. There are no services of any sort and no bail-outs on this 100-mile loop. Some sections are well graded dirt, but most are simply a double-track 4wd trail. If you are less experienced, chose a qualified outfitter for a well-supported, multi-day trip. More experienced riders may put in for a required Park Service permit (overnight trips) and provide their own support while camping in designated sites along the trail. Typically, groups will camp 2 - 3 nights. Very well-conditioned riders do White Rim in one day (no permit required). Choose an appropriate time of year to avoid extreme heat / cold. It is an awe-inspiring ride for those who are experienced and well-prepared.

For a great view of the canyons and the river this is a must do ride. To go to Moab and like to go off road and see what few see this is the trip to take. This is a one hundred twenty mile loop all dirt two track ride .You will start up top on the paved road and go all the way down to the river and back up

bc_expl0rer

this trip is awesome and has very distinct sections. the first half is rougher but with awesome views of the canyons toward dead horse point along the river. the 2nd half is smoother in sections and has a lot of different soil types, landforms and is along the river for a large portion of it as well. we had zero regrets about spending 2 fulls days doing this road/trail. as for for the 4x4ing it's not hard at all... a couple of steep hills, tight turns and a few spots where you need the extra clearance. we passed a 2013ish ford escape on the first half (starting from shafer trail end) but it would be tough to do the whole thing in a small suv without a little damage.

WOW! This is amazing. Get in your 4x4 or truck and have a thrilling, breathtaking and amazing time. This is not a trip for cars! You need a high clearance vehicle. This is amazing especially the trip from 313 to the bottom of the canyon. Lots of small hikes to see the Colorado, and natural bridges.

Before you even consider driving this road, don't make the same mistake I did. Research it. Research it well. This is not a short jaunt through Canyonlands. This is not designed for your 4WD Subaru, small truck or SUV. This is not even designed for a jeep unless you have proper gauge tires designed for off-roading. What this road (and I use that term with great caution) is: a stunning 110 mile loop drive (or bike ride) over steep switchbacks, along the rims of box canyons with 500+ foot sheer drop-offs, over wicked steep, rocky hog backs and through arroyos. You will not exceed 10 mph on this road unless you wish to find yourself in the Colorado River without a raft. You should be prepared to spend at least 9-10 hours if you complete the loop. There are no side roads if you need an escape hatch. It's a commitment. However, if you are prepared, you will see some of the most remote, amazing scenery imaginable, including needle-like hoodoos rising from the canyon flood, red cliffs gleaming in the sun, and maze-like passages worn through sandstone. What you'll need: water to last for at least two days, a full-size spare tire, extra food, blankets, first-aid kit, etc. This is serious back country. Be prepared, enter with the appropriate vehicle, and you'll have an amazing experience on this once-in-a-lifetime journey.

This is a rough 4WD trail with several overlooks of the Colorado River and canyons. Some of the trail can be seen about 1400 feet below the Grand View Point in Canyon Lands National Park. The get there you must take Shaffer Switchbacks Trail, which turns off Highway 313 a few miles prior to the Canyon Lands National Park visitor center. Shaffer Trail is classified as an “easy” trail for a high clearance 4WD vehicle; however, most of it is one lane with few places to pass vehicles. Therefore you must watch for vehicles coming from opposite direction, so you can determine where to pass. I did encounter “Big Horn sheep” on the road; however, they had no trouble climbing up or down the steep slopes on either side of the road. When we reached the White Rim Trail my altimeter was 1400 feet lower. There are camp grounds along the White Rim trail. Where the Shaffer Switchback trail meets the White Rim Trail there is an alternate 31 mile route back to Moab called Potash Road. It does not include the sheer drop-offs that are found on the Shaffer Switchback trail. It is also wider, so it is easier to pass approaching vehicles, dirt bikes and quads. I would recommend the purchase of “Guide to Moab, UT Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails,” by Charles A Wells before attempting any trails in the Moab area. I have found the book to be an excellent reference.

The a White Rim is a short trail on paper, but looong when you're actually on it. The trail gets a little gnarly in some places, but the views are amazing.

I have ridden the White Rim trail two times on my mountain bike and hope to return for more. The views change with nearly every mile, you are always seeing something new. The restrooms and campgrounds are primitive but that's what I expect, to get away from the world. We have ridden in groups, some with great bike skills and others who just get on a bike for this ride. Some climb all the hills others walk their bikes up most of the hills. The key is take your time enjoy the beauty and it's amazing how many different people can enjoy the ride.
