Chris is a very pleasant guide, but above all, he is a professional. He is the quintessential leader, which is exactly the quality you need in someone who is leading wilderness adventures. He continuously monitors the participants strengths, abilities and concerns in a non-overbearing and non-intrusive manner, allowing the participant to feel adventurous, yet very safe at the same time. His goal is to provide an exciting and fun adventure, all within the realm of safe canyoneering.I have highly recommended him to my family and friends and would ago on an adventure with Chris again in a heartbeat.
Thank you again, Chris, for the incredible day of canyoneering you provided. I have been playing outdoors all my life, and I have to tell you that in all of my 68 years, nothing I have ever done was as much fun, exciting, or rewarding. The day was an awesome combination of learning, being challenged, thrills, and sheer enjoyment. (Come on, how many people ever in their lifetime get a chance to rappel down a canyon right through a natural stone arch?!) The route was perfect, the equipment was first class, and the lunch was delicious! It's also important to mention that while the entire day had just the right amount of edginess to it to keep me excited, there was never a moment when I felt unsafe. Your constant diligence, redundant safety checks, and uncompromising high standards instilled in me the greatest confidence that I was always in the right hands. Your tagline says it all, Chris, it truly was the most extraordinary adventure vacation ever!Bob TessitoreChair, Appalachian Mountain Club, Narragansethttp://www.amcnarragansett.org/
Sept 26 we started out on our journey to Hankville to met up with our Guides Chris and Jen.We met them and introduced ourselves, snapped a few pictures and we were on our way.I won't name the canyon Chris took us to. He and Jen got us all fitted with harnesses and helmets and given our lunch to stash away for later. Chris gave us some instruction and we practiced a "rapell" then we were off. We repelled into the canyon and were on our way for the days adventure. Most of us were new to canyoneering and it took us alittle longer than I'm sure others to make our way down canyon. Chris and Jen were so great with this bunch of newbies. Some of us did better than others but we all made it through all the rappells and down climbs. At the end of our canyon we had a visitor, a baby which I am sure was a faded midget rattler. After we all got a look at him we made our way out and took a rest. We started up 1200ft back to our cars. We were a little late and hiked part of the trail in the dark. I can't say enough good things about Chris and Jen. They were so patient and so willing to give us encouragement. They never once tried to hurry us along and we did take several more hours than we and they expected. I will go out with them again in a heart beat. They were the best. Thank you Chris and Jen
Chris and team led our group of GA flatlanders into the North Cascades this summer. We had a blast! It was first time for many of us and Chris and team worked tirelessly to make sure we had a fun and safe adventure. I wouldn't hesitate to go on another adventure with Get In The Wild Adventures.
Chris, Melissa and Team were awesome! They took dads and sons on an adventure that will be remembered forever. They taught us the basics of hiking on snow to stopping a slide head first with and axe. They solved all kinds of challenges with food, sun and comfort issues (like a sleeping pad with a leak, thanks Matt). I would highly recommend this team for any adventure!Thank you! Bryan & Max.
I coordinated a group of 24 Boy Scouts and adult leaders on a trip with Chris, Melissa and their guides at Get In The Wild Adventures (GITW) in July 2014 up to the top of Mt.Baker. This was truly an experience of a lifetime for all of us on the trip. Although not easy to reach the summit with our limited experience and unseasonably warm conditions, GITW got us there and we had a lot of fun. They taught us all that we needed to know and ensured a safe climb and awesome experience. Our group was quite large and varied in experience and needs, yet GITW did a great job of accomodating us and working with us to get a great group experience. All of the guides that were part of the group were a great group of guys to be in the wilderness with for 5 days. Chris and team really know Mt.Baker well, so if you are planning an ascent there (or anywhere), we'd highly recommend them !
We had an awesome family experience with Chris and Matt as guides in a technical slot canyon in the Dirty Devil area of southern Utah. We asked for a technical route to challenge our athletic and adventurous kids as well as scare us a bit. They are very safety conscious and share their knowledge of the area and of canyoneering.
I took my son and daughter for a full day of Canyoneering with Get in the Wild Adventures. Matt was great guide and very good with the kids. We all had a blast rappelling and climbing through a slot canyon in the Dirty Devil Wilderness. The hummus, feta and mint sandwiches were delicious. And to top it off Matt and Chris pointed us to a beautiful campsite for the night.

At Get In The Wild we are very fortunate to have a wide variety of amazing wilderness areas to explore. This allows us great flexibility in providing trips that are a perfect match for our guest’s interests and abilities. We look forward to taking in another exciting trip with you both in the future!
We had the most amazing trip with Chris and Melissa--I highly recommend them to anyone wanting a unique experience, and one you can't do on your own. We camped for five days on the rim of a canyon carved by the Dirty Devil in southeastern Utah, in what felt like our own private national park. We explored slick rock, slots, followed canyons, forded rivers and rarely used a trail. We saw almost no one. Chris' technical knowledge, as well as his knowledge of the region is expansive and he handles all levels of ability and experience with patience and compassion--one feels completely safe with him. Add to that Melissa's knowledge of flora and fauna, excellent cooking, and general "wonderfulness" and you have quite a team. The camp was perfect, with amenities you would never expect in the desert, and the company was engaging. This is a trip I will never forget and can't wait to do another! If you think I am exaggerating, I am not! Do it!

I took the glacier climbing course last year and it was an amazing experience that culminated with a summit of Mt. Baker. I had used guide services to climb other mountains, but they don't go into the "whys" and "hows" to the level that Chris does. Chris is a passionate outdoorsman and a great teacher and I always felt safe. The course gives a solid understanding of the techniques and risk evaluation so students can apply them on their own in future adventures. The combination of classroom and field sessions and Chris' approach to team building and skills development impressed me. Being lowered into a cravass and practicing rescue techniques was also an unforgettable experience!
Dear James,Thank you for your review. I am glad that you found the Basic Glacier Climbing Class a rewarding experience. We take great pride in operating our trips and classes in a way that is not only fun and exciting, but educational as well. I am happy that the skills that you learned empowered you with confidence in reaching your objectives. We certainly enjoyed your participation and hope to Get In The Wild with you again in the future.
I took the basic glacier climbing course a few years ago from Chris. I was completely new to mountaineering, and I wanted to learn from someone who was passionate and experienced. I had a real interest in learning skills and enjoying the outdoors, and I wasn't interested in merely checking off a box. Chris was an amazing instructor. He taught our class navigational skills, rope skills, glacier travel skills, and everything else you can imagine. We practiced everything until everyone was very comfortable. I walked away from this class extremely comfortable with the basic mountaineering skills. Chris' vast knowledge and experience, as well as his intimate approach to teaching, really set his class apart. Our final trip was a summit attempt of Mt. Baker, and I'll never forget the experience. We successfully made the summit, and the views of the Puget Sound and surrounding mountains were unreal. The experience was truly unique, and I can't recommend this enough. I enjoyed it so much that I assisted with the class the following year!
I took a class here last year in preparation for climbing Mt. Baker in WA state. I had zero mountaineering experience but really wanted to learn what it was all about. I was sold when Chris did his first information session. Chris is such an experienced, calm, and teaching focused person. He described his approach to teaching climbing that just made sense for me. During the course we learned navigational skills, learned how to use all the climbing gear, how to safely cross glaciers, practice rescuing teammates from crevices (amazing experience!). We would learn the concepts in a classroom setting, then do an overnight camp/hike to practice all the skills in the wild. I knew nothing when I started the class, and I am now comfortable doing some of these things on my own, this is a testament to Chris' ability to teach and make sure you remember what you are taught. I would recommend this for anyone that is interested in mountaineering, it was such an amazing experience, and I have since drawn upon those skills in other outdoor scenarios. Chris makes this a comfortable learning environment, where you can challenge yourself, explore the wonder that is the mountains, and make some great friends! What are you waiting for?? GO GO GO!
