This is the place to go for some Great History about this Very Famous Chapel. Take all Family Members and enjoy. There is quite a story to share after you have gone here.
We started out from St. George and had a great time stopping and climbing the volcanoes...it's a must thing to do if you are in the area. Be careful because it can tear your pants if you slide down...Pine Valley is a beautiful mountain community. Peaceful and small the chapel is a wonderful part of this community. The drive and time spent in Pine Valley was one of the best memories of my visit to St. George.
Once the dominant structure in this small mountain community, the Pine Valley Chapel is a living vestige of a bygone era. They say its builders believed that the Great Flood was coming back, and so built the pretty little wooden chapel high above the ground so it could float to safety (presumably with the town's residents inside). It's been maintained well, is used regularly, and is open for guided tours. Of course, this being Mormon country, there will be a bit of proselyting along with the tour, but you shouldn't be surprised at that. Just be aware of anything you sign at the end. :^)
We have toured the chapel and grounds with friends on various occasions. It's a nice place to stop on your way to or from the mountain. The history of the site is fascinating. It amazes me that a ship builder used the knowledge he had to construct the place. We have always had very kind tour guides, and each has told us something new each time we have visited.
We were wandering from St George and found this little chapel in the town of Pine Valley Utah. It is a most unusual building, constructed by ship builders who made the roof as if it were a large boat. It is quite interesting. There was a good feeling of both ingenuity, and dedication. There are camping places nearby at the pine valley reservoir, not much else to the town but a few summer homes. If you are wandering northward from St. George, through Dammeron Valley toward Enterprize, Utah, you can find directions to Pine Valley. It is worth taking a little time to visit.
The chapel is apparently closed during winter (at least when we went, on Saturday) but this is not listed on their website as far as I can see.
Wonderful place to visit. When you are there talk to the local residents to learn about the pioneers who settled Pine Valley. You will hear amazing stories of the effort and sacrifice to settle this beautiful place.
The chapel was built by a ship builder who incorporated his skills in the design of the chapel. It is worth the scenic drive to see this part of Western History.
Went here w my husband and parents for a Sunday church session and we all loved it. The cute little chapel had some awesome history.
We came to Pine Valley on a weekday and took a tour of this chapel, and came back on Sunday for church services, which was fun and very crowded. We love the little town and had a picnic in the State Park both times.
I really loved it ,it is old ,from the LDS pioneer times , well kept and it is active not only for tourist but they also hold LDS church services in Sunday.
45 minute drive to Pine Valley was worth the drive.. this is a pioneer chapel built in the 1800s by a ship builder.. the area is 20 degrees cooler than St. George with a beautiful campground and fishing resevoir
It takes a long time from st george to get there. It is a great destination on a hot summer day. make sure you know what hours the site is open it is a long drive to find out it is closed. Pine valley is much cooler than st george
What a neat place, especially for an out of the way stop! Enjoyed the tour and the historical aspects of the area.
It's been a few years since we toured this very historic chapel. The tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly. The little town is quaint and picturesque...good photo ops near the stream
