This may be the biggest hammer looking rock, but there are so many other similar hoodoos that you keep seeing more of them everywhere.

I mean - you HAVE to stop and see it, and it's WORTH it to do so, but there are SOOO many hoodoos, and vistas, and hikes ... that are even BETTER! Don't get me wrong, for viewing from the road, and not requiring you to leave the path, it's excellent, and everyone will know where you took that photo. But, hike down into the canyons and then look back up ... I bet you'll be happy that you didn't just stop on the side of the road and snap that one photo!! :)

The view of Thor's Hammer via the Navajo trail is truly amazing. You are so close to this gravity defying rock formation although I had to hug the back wall of the trail a little as height made me slightly squeamish. The entire Navajo Loop is worth the hike as one beautiful red rock vista opens after another.

There's no place like Bryce Canyon! The red and orange sandstone sculptures are natural works of art. Thor's Hammer along the Navajo Trail is one of the iconic rock formations that Bryce is known for, but it's not the best example by a long shot. There is SO much more at Bryce and I highly recommend you get a pair of hiking shoes and go down into the canyon to see some of it. Take a canyon trail ride on horseback to see even more phenomenal views and shifting perspectives. Do part of the Under-the-Rim Trail and enjoy the sweeping vistas of the canyon. Visit the Hat Shop and see even more bizarre and wonderful hoodoos!!!

One of the most photographed spots in Bryce. You have to hike about half a mile to reach it, but worth the trip. I recommend doing the entire Navajo Loop as Wall Street is equally spectacular.

Very neat Formation, worth stopping to look at. Easy trail. There were a lot of people on the trail when we went. Bring water.

Cool formation - like so many in Bryce. Loved this amazing place and be sure to hike the trails - the exceptional views are worth the inclines.

RainbowCowboy

One of the most popular formations along the Navajo Trial. It a big hoodoo along the northern fork of the trail. You'll have to hike a third of the way down the trail for it to be most noticeable.

Ok, so honestly, it's a rock formation, but what I want to advise you not to miss is the amazing vista that this formation sits right in the middle of!

In my opinion Bryce Canyon in Utah is one of the most amazing places in US and on the Earth with unreal/ un-Earthy breath taken experience. No words can describe it, you need to experience it. We hiked Queens Gardens, Navajo Loop, Picaboo Loop, and rim. Thor's Hammer is one of the many most impressive formations and the part of the Navajo/ Sunset trail loop. You can also see it from the rim. Views were constantly changing depending on the time of the day, light and points of view. Cant' wait to go back to do the Fairyland hike and see more of those magnificent canyons, hoodoos, and rock formations.

Another wonderful vista to stop, admire and photograph!!! The sun created wonderful colors on this special hoodoo as we watched it during our time there.

You can get more up close and personal from the Navajo Trail or you can view it from the rim (I posted a pic with a view from the rim). This is nice for the immobile who can't do the trails. We saw a baby hammer on our way down the Queen's Trail thinking it was Thor's hammer. We thought it was in the canyon between the Queen's Garden and Navajo Trails because that's what it looked like at first on the map. That is, until we saw an arrow from the words "Thor's Hammer" pointing to the beginning of the trail. Like other reviewers have said, they can name the formations anything. There are many unnamed formations that look like something to someone. Still, this is one that's worth looking for and is easy enough to get to and see.

Read the legend when you get here. There are so many spectacular sites in Bryce Canyon it's hard to single out any one as special. Try Yovima Point, Sunrise and Sunset Points, inspiration Point, the list goes on and on.

To see Thor's Hammer hoodoo doesn't take much effort. You can easily see it from Sunset Point. Best times to photograph it in all its glory would be at sunrise when the warm sun basically makes it glow a brilliant orange!Hike down the Navajo Loop trail to get different angles. You won't be disappointed!

Thor's Hammer is an iconic symbol of Bryce Canyon National Park and is viewed from Sunset Point or near the beginning of the Navajo Loop trail (the trailhead is at Sunset Point). The color and beauty of Thor’s Hammer is very dependent upon the angle of the sunlight striking the rock and is a “5” at sunrise, a “4” in the late afternoon and a “3” at best midday. I highly recommend viewing Thor’s Hammer from Sunset Point at sunrise if one has the opportunity as the color and beauty is unmatched and if there is a light coating of fresh snow, even better.
