Lots of views but narrow roads so not many places to stop to take photos. Also wish there were some guardrails! Beautiful mountainous road - but not for the faint of heart!

Just down the same road as dead horse point state park. Most spectacular part of our trip. Trails are great. This is number 1 on the bucket list!

Drive this one south to north and you'll get some vistas extradinaire. Better as a passenger view-wise, as the hairpins and corners are best left focusing on as a driver. Either way, you will appreciate the 63 mile loop, and if you have the time and don't mind some off-roading, the dirt road to Warner Lake Campground is scenic too.

This is a nice, twisty road up through the La Sals, past Pack Creek and down toward Castle Valley. Worth a drive, but make sure you've got the right vehicle - SUV is recommended - and I'd avoid it if there is snow or any chance of freezing weather.

Amazing view, certain points you can see the Rockies. Be sure to take a 4 wheel drive in the winter.

Assuming you are in decent shape, this is a nice ride north and east of Moab. There are some steep bits, so be prepared. If you are here early in the Spring the loop may be closed by snow, so ask at a bike shop first.

Fabulous fall color and breathtaking views as you descend into Castle valley from high above. If there is snow on the ground you have the nice contrast of red rock and snow.

We visited Arches National park and the Moab area in August, and one afternoon we rode up the La Sal Mountain loop.. we walked through ice cold mountain streams, hiked around a mountaintop lake, and wandered through forests. It never got above 60 degrees. It was a beautiful retreat after the hot days we spend exploring arches and the surrounding area. If you have time, I would definitely recommend this side loop during your stay.

A don't miss poorly marked turn off with great adventure and sites. A loop that should take less than an hour took three hours

Great views, beautiful scenery, took about an hour driving on snow covered road. Fun local ride with side roads yet to discover. Will definitely go again when the roads are dry.

We have completed this drive several times and still enjoy the scenery along the way. The section thru Castle valley is beautiful as is the sections in La Sal mountains. Nice to be in the mountains in the summer where it is much cooler than down in the valleys. There is a winery on the highway near the river that has a informative museum of the movies that have been made in the Moab area. Its at least a 1/2 day drive including a few stops. Castle valley viewing is better is better in the late afternoon.

The La Sals are Utah's second highest mountain range and although they are drier than the Wasatch, they are also higher and more desolate. The loop road itself is most dramatic when done from South to North as you get to drop into the awe inspiring Castle Valley, then out the river road with possible stops to admire the Colorado river or have a meal or a drink at The Red Cliffs Ranch or Sorrel River Ranch (a little out of the way to the North.)It is an excellent ambition for road cyclists with 60 miles and 5,500 ft of climbing to challenge you but it is also great access for hiking and mountain bike trails. There is also hunting to be had but fishing is pretty limited as there are only a few small lakes and the creeks arn't exactly gold medal trout waters.

Do not miss the La Sal Mountain Loop (especially when the aspens are turning gold or after a light snow)! Take a side trip up to Warner Lake to view the incredible aspens.Or take the short-cut back to Moab on the Sand Flats Road. Or take a side trip to view the Pinhook Battle site and learn some local history.

Its been over 10 years since I traveled on the La Sal Mountain loop and the road is much improved. Very easy drive with several options for side trips, picnics, and hiking. Don't forget your camera

This drive takes you from the Castle Valley to the heights of the La Sal Mountains. The only problem is that there are so many views you will want to do it more than once.
