This is a must-stop after entering through the East entrance at Zion. Parking is limited but we arrived early in the morning and didn't have trouble finding a spot. The hike is 1 mile roundtrip and my 9 & 7 year olds completed it with no problems. The view from the top is beautiful. It's a great way to start your day at Zion.
The walk is easy and the views incredible. We went up shortly after sunrise. I imagine it would be really quite something to be there at sunrise itself. The canyon itself is so large that it's hard to understand the magnitude until you see the tiny road winding up.
This is just a short hike with a great view of the canyon at the end of the trail. Just go there early as there's just a few parking space available. Amazing rock formation typical of the zion-mt carmel highway and lots of goats along the trail.
trail is short, about 1.5 miles and easy, a lot of kids around, very family friendly, but need to be careful when arrives at the overlook part, that's the really cliff and no stoppers. I stand very close to the edge and had some good shots.
We did this trail the day we left Zion after several longer walks during our stay. This is a fairly easy walk, plenty to see along the way to the end point where there's the overlook of Zion canyon etc. When driving from Zion canyon itself the parking is to the right immediately you get out of the road tunnel so don't miss it.Like everything in Zion and thereabouts there's photo's aplenty to be taken and wildlife to see if you slow down a bit.Definitely recommend this trail if you've limited time as you drive in or out of Zion and you'll experience going through the tunnel too.
Someone in a different review described this as a warm-up hike, and I think this is a good way to describe it. It is not very long- perhaps took us 30-40 minutes to hike it RT. It is definitely high up, but the terrain is varied, which keeps it interesting. There is a small bridge to cross that is literally above nothing and a half-cave that you hike through. The view at the end is nice, but honestly, it is the journey that was the fun part. On a practical note, it is not the easiest to drive to. We heading through the MT Carmel tunnel and there is a parking lot on the right after you exit the tunnel. Easy to spot, but limited spaces. There is a crosswalk that leads right across the highway to the base of the stairs that start the hike. If you can't find a parking spot, the road does widen a bit and there are some places to pull over on the side of the road. When we were done, we had to drive in the opposite direction we needed for a little bit before we found a place to turn around.
Great short hike. I came in the south entrance and was so mesmerized by everything I drove right past the turn for canyon drive. After the tunnel I parked in the second lot and just decided to follow the trail. Very happy I did. There are other trails in the park that are better but all that I did were also longer. I was very happy as a first hike of the day. There are some steep parts all with steps. Some wet areas that could be icy. Fantastic view once you get to the end.
This is a nice short trail after the tunnel if you are leaving/entering through the east. Small parking lot so you may have to walk a bit to get a spot. There are some stairs at the beginning mostly that may be difficult if you have trouble with stairs. I few years ago I saw a herd of big horn sheep off the trail which was very exciting but not this latest time.
I went in the winter but no snow... Best time to hike. Not a lot of hikers, no shuttle. A lot of goats close to trail. Good for all ages but you need to be careful with kids in some parts of the trail.
Short uphill hike (0.5 mile) to very impressive overlook of the main canyon. Limited parking so you may have to arrive early to get a spot. Well worth the effort, highly recommended.
...for out of shape 50 somethings. A lot of this trail is on the edge of cliffs and up and down steep inclines. Also, a lot of exposure to the sun reflecting off the rocks. Geology is in great variety and view at the end is worth every step. See if you can find the toppled flying saucer rock.
This was a more challenging hike than I expected from its description. First of all, it’s definitely longer than one mile round-trip- perhaps two miles overall. Second, it’s rocky in places, with a lot of narrow places that make passing difficult. Finally, there are quite a few drop-offs along the side. There are handrails and fences in a lot of those areas, but not all. In one place we thought the trail had ended, but it had just turned into a very narrow ledge. The trail ends at a lovely view of the canyon, overlooking the winding road you probably just took to get here, Zion-Mt. Carmel Hwy. If you have a fear of heights, this hike may be a challenge for you- more so than say Kayenta Trail or Scouts Lookout. But you will definitely have a feeling of accomplishment after finishing it!Finally, parking here is very tight; the eastbound parking lot only has room for 8 cars, so plan on looking for a spot along the road.
This was our cool down hike to watch the sunset after doing Emerald Pools & Angels Landing in morning. It is a short easy hike that most anyone should be able to enjoy. On the way out there are plenty of cool rock formations, a small slot canyon, and the Zion Tunnel to view. The overlook has a great view of the massive walls of Zion Valley. On the way back we saw a small herd of Desert Bighorn being attended to by a large male with a nice set of horns.
about 2 mile round trip hike, very short but very beautiful. Caught the sunrise up here last week and it was magical . Beautiful scenery - - fun little trail, I highly recommend.
After a long 3+ hour, 5-mile hike, we finished the day at the Canyon Overlook. This is a very short, not difficult hike with a magnificent view! Great place to be at sunset.
