Great place to walk back in time. The wife works for a big food chain, she had no idea the history of the food stores! Great people, very friendly! Wish we had more time to spend in the whole town! It's the Williamsburg of Tennessee!
The T.B. Sutton store was a trip back in time. A must visit for nostalgic reasons. Stay and have a home cooked meal.Granville had many other buildings to view and visit during your stay. You can walk the whole town and visit many things from the past. The people all were very friendly and answered all of our questions.
My husband and I stopped here on our way back from Texas. It was a little further off the freeway than we wanted to go but it was absolutely beautiful. Everybody was very warm we didn't get to go to all the places but we dis go to the general store the church the bank and the saloon. It was like a town time forgot. And I wish more towns were as proud of their history as granville. One our best stops on our vacation.
The T. B. Sutton General Store has been restored, built in 1880. The two story country store has unique style, and features a balcony with many of the products the store offered for sale during its 90 years of service. It also houses The works of artist from Upper Cumberland Arts Alliance and it is he venue for Sutton Ole Time Music Hour. They have Tennessee's Best Bluegrass and Ole Time Music every Saturday Night 6pm warm up show, 7pm Syndicated Radio Show. The dinner was wonderful catered by Seasons Restaurant. I defiantly put it on my must do list when visiting Tennessee and the UpperCumberland.
The store is definitely where you should begin. There is so much to look at, a good mix of merchandise with antiques to see along the way. There is a restaurant in the store which sells sandwiches and such which I did not try. Bluegrass music is played on the weekends and a southern buffet is served by reservations. The volunteers, as all in the historic walking tour buildings are, are very knowledgable and helpful with any questions. The store is a great place to start a tour of the small historic town. It is a beautiful walk through a town rich in history. Most of the historic buildings are only open from 12-3.
Had lunch with family and friends. It was a fun time with a fried bologna sandwich and a moon pie Sunday. It felt like walking back in time.
We stopped off in Granville to have a peek in the antique shop and a massive storm rolled in so we decided to get a bite to eat. We were directed to TB Suttons. Everyone working there was so friendly and helpful. My husband and I both ordered the Pimento Grilled Cheese, possibly the best grilled cheese I have ever had! The kids had ice cream and old fashioned sweets. I can't wait to go back for one of their Blugrass music nights with Southern Home Cooking!
This town store is located in historic Granville, TN. Granville is an old riverboat town located on the Cumberland River and is now has the entire downtown as "museum" of historic buildings. The town host many festivals throughout the year but is worth the visit anytime. The most interesting thing is that this town is only open from 12 noon to 3 pm. The T.B. Sutton store is a great place to start your tour of the town. It has many unique items for sale and serves a great lunch. On Saturdays they frequently have live entertainment. Located in the "center" of town, it is next door to the Granville museum. Like all buildings in Granville, except one, it is free to visit. Only the Sutton homestead charges a small fee. Granville only about 20 minutes from Carthage, TN and about 35 minutes off I-40. If you are visiting the Cordell Hull lake area or just enjoy being off the beaten path, take a small detour and enjoy this little town.
