This is really a great house, It is well worth the time. The home sits on a hill just above the town of Greeneville, Tn. It is beautify laid out home, with a curved stairway. The society that runs the Mansion has done a wonderful job furnishing the Mansion. It contains much furniture made in the area. This is also the home where General John Hunt Morgan was found and later shot .Our guide did a great job explaining the history of the Mansion. Tours are daily at 100 PM.
I have been to several historic homes like this one, but I felt that Beverley the guide did the best job of explaining the little details more that the others. Interesting history, great displays, and great narration. He was very knowledgeable... in fact he is a descendent of the original owners. Enjoyed!
This was amazing that this mansion is so much grander than that of a former president less than a block a way for President Andrew Johnson's home.
Completed in 1821, this was the grandest home between Roanoke and Chattanooga. The tour guides share stories of the Williams family, as well as those of life through the years in Greeneville, Tennessee, The home is filled with period pieces and decorated as if it were the 1840's...the heyday of the family. Totally different from the Andrew Johnson home, although the two men lived in Greeneville during the same time period.Especially lovely when festive Christmas details are added in December.Tours leave the General Morgan Inn at 1 PM most days. For special arrangements, call Main Street: Greeneville at 423-787-0500 or 423-639-7102.
