Very good venue for basketball. An older facility but upgrades to the lights have been a big improvement. Needs work on PA system for basketball or maybe its just the acoustics. Restrooms not very good.
I like the space for a concert because there are no bad seats in the house. Ordering tickets was not a difficult tasks and parking is an easy in and out move. The location is easy to find especially for people out of town.
We saw a very great band while at the Decatur Days a few days ago. The facility is very nice and well ran
I've attended concerts and sporting events here. Parking can be tough and there's can be a good quarter mile walk which can be unpleasant in rainy or cold weather however, the venue itself leaves one with a good seat. There's no "nose bleed" section and every seat is really a good seat to enjoy the event you're attending.
this place is good because it brings a lot of acts that otherwise wouldn't be stopping in JC. Tickets are pretty reasonably priced as well. Parking was a nightmare though and I watched some guy roll his car into another car and tons of confusion going on. I saw ZZ Top here and was seriously disappointed they don't serve alcohol. Who doesn't want a beer while listening to ZZ Top??
This place is bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. We went on a Friday night for a concert and there was also a local football game going on at the highschool adjacent to the arena. When we heard there was a football game going on, we were a little worried about finding parking and having to deal with traffic. BUT there is a ton of parking and they have people all over directing traffic so there was absolutely no hassle to get in and get out. I would definitely go back to this arena for another event.
What's happened to this place..I remember where there were so many good rock and metal bands playing here and now there's nothing..bring some good bands back like kiss and motley crue and Cinderella and bon jovi and ac/dc and metallica..don't let good music die out in the tro cities area..
the freedom hall center is a great place to see a show, swim, or graduation. it is very big so expect to do some walking. the parking is big as well with many safe places to go. you will still have to do some walking to the actual building, as it sits on a high school campus. there is a pool downstairs as well. I would recommend anyone to go there for a show or any other event.
I have been coming here for years to see the Shriner's Circus and attended many concerts and events here. The facility is always clean, but could use some updating.
I recently attended the Elton John Concert at Freedom Hall. He was excellent--absolutely no complaints with the show itself. HOWEVER, Freedom Hall has, for all practical purposes, a monopoly. It's time they showed their patrons some consideration. First: the website: several people around us thought, like we did, that our seats were closer to the stage. They appeared to be based on the seating chart and price of the tickets. We were 2 rows from the top! Surely, Freedom Hall can invest in a better diagram of their seating. Too, we had to look around the giant speakers that were suspended from the ceiling. Several people around us couldn't even see him because of the speakers. Next: the seats are badly in need of repair! Half of the smooth wooden slats on my seat were off--most uncomfortable. Bathrooms: add some! Before the show, the lines were enormous. Vending spaces: Add some roped off areas for people to wait patiently and fairly. It was "every man for himself" in line to buy souvenirs--mass chaos! I felt totally ripped off by Freedom Hall! Finally, the phone system for ordering tickets. I spent hours trying to get through when they opened the lines. I finally had to go on line--again, the seating was NOT clear. I will think long and hard before I attend another event there. And hope they either clean up THEIR act or get some competition!
Freedom Hall is well-suited as a concert venue. Accoustics are good, seating is ample and well designed. Parking is ample.
Well we just saw Elton John there this month. In the Seventies it seems like there was a concert every two weeks. I hope they will get more shows there.
I saw Elton John in concert at Freedom Hall on 9/16/2012. What a great place to see a concert. The walk from parking was not bad, and all the seats (except maybe those behind the stage) were good. It's a very small venue for such a big name, and that made it even better. The sound was good, and it was overall a very nice experience. First time I have been there.
The Center was clean and our seats were comfortable. It only took a few minutes to enter and leave the building. It was a great experience!
When I attended my second rock concert it was at Freedom Hall. Great accoustics, well-maintained building and grounds.
