Hello, I am very sorry to hear that your latest experience on our overnight adventure was not as good as the previous ones that you have had. I have looked in to the issues you have stated here and I assure you that I have dealt with them. I apologize for your frustrations having to wait for a group of 90 people is not acceptable. We do not normally run groups of that size and that will not be an issue in future. The rate that we charge for the overnight experience is $40.00 per person. This fee covers a commerical tour that is an hour and a half long. It also includes an adventure tour that last between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. The breakfast is also included in this price. We feel that we have a wonderful experience to offer both kids and adults alike. As you stated in your comments we have a large amount of repeat business and they come back due to the unique adventures that we offer here at Cumberland Caverns. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and your group, I hope that you will give us another chance to share our wonderful facility with you again in the near future. Thank you!
This is a beautiful and interesting cave that is worth going off the beaten track a bit to visit. It has several large rooms and some quite large and impressive formations. It has a couple of features that you are not likely to see in another show cave, including a very large and ornate antique chandelier from a New Jersey theater that is hung by expansion bolts from the ceiling in the "Volcano Room". It also hosts a monthly underground bluegrass music concert, although we were not there at the right time to experience that. There are several tour options offered including a "wild caving" experience with an overnight caving option. We opted for the "daily walking tour" which takes about an hour or so and covers about a mile and a half of trail. In the large Mountain Room there are quite a few steps, many of which are essentially flagstones partially covered with loose dirt. There are sections of these stairways that are not as well lit as they might be and since my wife and I are in our 70s, we found cause for mild concern. While we experienced no mishaps, persons who have any difficulty with stairs whatsoever should probably avoid this cave. Our guide was a pleasant young woman who was reasonably knowledgeable and eager to please. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and well worth the admission price.
Seven in our tour from one year old to over 60. The daily walking tour was well lit and there are enough stops that no one got winded. Our guide was a young man(about 19 yrs old). He was full of information about the cave history and the surrounding area even though he had not lived in the area very long. He was friendly and nice My 36 yr old son did a spelunking tour with this same guide afterwards and loved it and wants to do it again. He said they climbed through many tight and dark spaces so it is not for the claustrophobic. He was completely worn out and filthy when he returned. The season passes for the daily walking tours were only about $5 more than the one time tickets.
My son had a blast and sleeping in the cave was an adventure in itself. Bring earplugs cause the sound carries! When they say bring close you don't mind getting dirty listen and bring shoes you don't care about or that you don't mind ruining. IF YOU ARE A BIG PERSON MAKE SURE THAT SPENDING LONG TIMES CRAWLING ON HANDS AND KNEES AND BELLY ARE OK! And that box they test you out on is no joke. It really is that tight many times. I had a hard time, but made it through and enjoyed myself.
This is an amazing cave with many beautiful formations. The "rooms" are huge and the lighting is just enough to show off the structures without ruining the feel of being in a cave. I could have done without the inspirational audio reenactment of the experience of the cave's founder, but that was brief. Our guide was just so-so; it really bothered me that he disturbed the hibernating little brown bats just to prove to us they were real.
Our Cub Scout Pack visits the cave every year. The boys love the Adventure Tour. We camp inside the cave. The cave has a concession stand with food and drinks. There is a restroom near where you sleep. The guides are great with the kids. This is a must do trip for any type of youth group.
This is a great experience for anyone but it is especially good for younger scouts. They get the opportunity to explore the cave and do some "rigorous" camping (it is not so rigorous to those who have been camping awhile) and expand their experiences. This is truly a wonderful experience for all who attend. you will be amazed at the sights and learn a little bit about yourself as well. For Scouting Groups, be sure you understand the refund policy. You will pay for a majority of your "no show" scouts. I do recommend this adventure for your group. There is nothing quite like camping in a cave. Yes, there are bats in the cave!Go and enjoy!
If you are looking for a cave close to Atlanta, this is a great choice. Lots of touring options including those who may be leery of the experience. Great guides, good conditions. We did the Ricky top tour with scouts as young as 12. Some large adults as well. It was great.
We went to Cumberland Caverns and we loved it! The staff was so friendly and gives you free fudge samples. Tour was a reasonable price. Our guide was very sweet and knowledgeable. She was able to answer every question. We got to see some bats! There are some amazing sites down there. You go about 400 feet down and get to experience absolute darkness. Definitely recommend!
This is a very good staff and visiting this month is the best time.we were the only group, so no crowds and no rushing. It is 1.5 hrs drive but so worth it.
This place takes you back in the stone age, it feels as if you're living life during that period! I loved the experience, it was too wonderful.
We visited Cumberland Caverns as a group of 14. Our group consisted of 3 families with 8 children ranging from 8 to 14 years of age. We had prearranged with Cumberland Caverns for a private Splelunking Adventure on 12/29/14. The day was slightly cold and rainy but that had absolutely no impact on our enjoyment. Every single one of us absolutely LOVED Splelunking! Not only was its great to hear the kids exclaim as they climbed in front of us saying things like " OMG, no way are we getting through there" or "This is impossible" Or just passing along funny warnings about what was to come. Since our group was relatively large, you couldn't quite hear what was going on at the front of the line since you are in a winding cave and sound doesn't carry but that allowed us to each experience each turn individually and within people that were immediately in front or behind us. The cave was breathtaking and a grab bag full of twists and turns and tight but doable spaces. We had two brief stops where we took a rest and heard some history. One of the first responses my 9 year old said as we heard the tour was coming to an end was "Mom, can we do this again!". Truly, truly a fun and personally rewarding as well as group engaging experience. We are all now jazzed up to research other spelunking adventures in the area! Truly a great way to spend an afternoon with family and friends. Only negative.. wear hiking boots if possible, sneakers can get slippery in certain spots, bring clean clothes to change into and probably ask more questions about the history of the cave. They provided more if you ask but that is not really part of the splelunking adventure itself. HIGHLY RECOMMEND but do not recommend for anyone with bad bad or other medical conditions.
We had never heard of Cumberland Caverns prior to buying tickets to see a band do a performance in the Volcano Room, an underground amphitheater located within the cave. I had never been in a cave and was really excited not only about seeing the show "Manchester Orchestra" but also going in a real cave for the first time. Being from central Florida we were concerned about the temperature of the cave feeling cold but as it turned out that December afternoon 12/13/14 it was only about 37 degrees outside so going underground was a nice warm up to 56. They have a regular music event called Bluegrass Underground that is held in this venue and from was announced they have also begun working with other bands through a show on PBS (can't remember the name of the show). The performance we saw was incredible, the acoustics in the Volcano Room were out of this world, it was literally a once in a lifetime experience and well worth the road trip. Check out a clip here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6N1ODK4i-oo The cave was equally awesome, we enjoyed what we could for our event which I think was only a fraction of what there was to see. They have a variety of tours, a gift shop and as we were leaving our event there were groups of campers including a boy scout troop that were all gathered up outside checking in to go and camp in the cave overnight....how cool would that be.
First, let me say it is very cool on a hot day. It is about 56 degrees year round. Second, wear comfortable shoes for walking on uneven ground. I've been in several caverns and this was definitely right up there with the best. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. If someone in your party was unable to negotiate the stairs or portion of the walk, there was a place for them to wait until the group returned. Everything was lighted and I felt it was very safe.
Enjoyed our cavern experience. Tucker was very knowledgeable and was willing to answer questions. As healthy seniors we found the many stairs a bit of a challenge. My husband suggests that having a carbide lamp to show in the mining exhibit would show how difficult the process was in low light.
