Always a good trip with this outfitter, highly recommend them! The guides are some of the best and we have used them numerous times. We live in the area and they were recommended to us by friends.
Absolutely life changing. Jon Hall is a rock star, Outdoor Adventure Rafting is a Class Act. What a blast we had!! We felt both safe and challenged, we were exhilarated!!Thanks O.A.R.
When I was looking to go rafting at the end of September, most of the other places wouldn't commit to selling tickets until the day before because they were worried about the weather, so I went through this company because I wanted to get tickets early. We really had a fun time, although don't expect crazy rapids on this trip. More like smooth sailing with a couple big bumps. We still had fun and our guide was AJ, who was both funny and knowledgeable about the area. My first time white water rafting so I didn't mind the calm ride, but if you are a little more intense might not be for you. The pricing was only $30 a person if you order a head of time online. They offer a picture package for $30. The pictures are really good, they snap it as you hit the first run, but a little pricey considering it's just a USB and they don't print them. You get 20 pictures on the USB. They have a little store there to buy t-shirts, etc. Recommend using the directions on the website, your GPS will take you a back way down one lane winding roads!
Great price, great guides, & a great time was had by all. Definitely recommend esp for a 1st timer.AJ was our guide and he was informative, funny, friendly, and did a great job of making everyone feel safe. I also spoke with several other staff and guides and this is a good group of people. I wanted to go again as soon as we finished.
We had a fantastic rafting trip with our guide Bandy. We told him to go all out, and he gave us a great adventure. We had a wild time! It was awesome!
My fiance and I went rafting here at the end of August 2014 and had a BLAST! We could not stop smiling the entire time. Our guide was Miami John. He was fabulous - knowledgable and patient and full of quirky one-liners. I am happy to report that we all stayed in the raft. LOL! We definitely recommend this place - such a great freakin' time!
A wonderfull experience thanks to a great guide- Scooter rocks!I would recommend this place for everybody looking for some fun and exciting things to do! AND great people to accompany you:)
The guides are knowledgeable of the history of the Ocoee River and the best routes to take for you to get the ride you want on your rafting trip!! I've tried other rafting outfits and I must say OAR is the only place I call when my family is looking for a wet & wild trip on the Ocoee! ! You will not be disappointed!!
This is the second time that I have now used this company. First time with a large group of 13, and today with my two boys (13-17). The fun starts right as you step out of the car. The setting is wild looking but clean at the same time. After you register and sign the waiver (THANK YOU FOR MAKING IT VERY SHORT and SIMPLE...5 minutes at most), they lead you to an amphitheater in the woods where you face a replica of a raft made out of wood). Twice now we have had a guide that should really consider a career on Broadway. Yes, it is about safety and all, but we all laughed so much at their way of explaining it...the laughter goes for 15-20 minutes. So relaxing for such a serious topic! They then give you a paddle, a life jacket, and a helmet (no bad smell, thank you again). After a 15 minutes ride in the bus you reach the start point where they train you to paddle forward-backward and get down..on the gravel (a little strange, but you get the feeling on dry land ;-). Finally, you carry the boat to the water and the fun starts. During our first trip we had people who wanted a super safe ride and some who wanted a wild ride. No problem, they arranged our groups to accommodate our request and every one was happy. The guides are no jokers, they seem to know every rapid and rock by heart. I won't describe the ride itself to not steel any thunder here, but it was worth every penny! Tip: Don't use a cotton T-shirt, use a Polyester one that dries fast . Get some sandals (like Keens) but no Crocs, and have a bathing suit that is comfortable. They make you go up and down the raft quite a bit (you can also swim some sections if you like it). Photographers are located at multiple locations. Our pictures were ready to view organized by boat when we reached the parking lot... smart cookies! (something like $25 for 50+ pictures, not bad at all). The showers in the locker room are private, hot, and clean! The ride with my two boys today was phenomenal. The guide asked us if we wanted "Safe" or "Stupid" and he gave us everything we asked for while totally maintaining our safety... Thank you.And finally, last but not least, the company is very close to the main road that leads to the Ocoee, no need to drive up the river on the winding congested road, they take care of that with their bus (we were running late, and the proximity of the site saved us compared to the GPS estimation)
I had a rare Saturday alone with my 13 year old son(usually we have at least a brother and generally a gaggle of his friends) so we decided to head to the Ocoee-which is an easy hour drive from Chattanooga. We kind of randomly picked OAR just from a quick Google search. The reservation process was quick and easy. We wanted to go later in the afternoon and so they opened a time slot just for us at 4:00 in the afternoon. We got there the requested 15 min before our scheduled time and check-in was easy and efficient too, they were ready for us and sent us to meet our raft guide.Mark is what you think of when you think of a river guide. Mid 20's outdoorsey guy with a laid back demeanor and an obvious appreciation and passion for the awesome gig he has going. We had to sit through the obligatory safety spiel but it was not too drawn out or painful and OAR has it set up very nicely and professionally with a wooden "raft simulator" to show you as well as tell you what you need to know to stay safe on the water. After the safety thing you are sent over to a gear area and outfitted with a helmet, life vest and paddle. As far as high volume rental gear goes (if you have been on commercial raft trips you know this stuff can get moldy and gross) this stuff was top notch. Clean, nearly new and (we got lucky) dry! The management even went out of their way to find me a sunglass strap for my prescription sun glasses (for free) which was a nice touch (I would have lost them for sure without it). The drive to the put-in is not too far and before we knew it we were unloading the boat and heading into the rapids. We got lucky and were the last commercial trip of the day. We didnt see another raft our whole trip and had the boat to ourselves as well. As it was just us and Mark, he let us dictate all of the extras we wanted (swimming, jumping off rocks and into selected deep (safe) rapids. I am sure a lot of guys would have wanted to rush us along as we were the last ride and it was just two of us on a Saturday evening but we were never rushed in any way and we were shown a great time with lots of "paddle-high-fives". While mark was fun and entertaining he was also a very capable guide which we quickly became very confident with, you could tell he knew what he was doing as he had been guiding for 6 years. We always felt safe and well informed of what was going on and what was coming up. OAR was the perfect outfitter for this trip. Easy reservations with quick e-mail confirmation, concise preparations on arrival, clean new gear (for disclosure, there is some older gear too for busier days but even it looked above average for high volume rental rafting gear). Friendly, accommodating management (the whole staff had to stick around just for our last trip of two people and not one person seemed put out or eager for us to be gone) and a great knowledgeable, fun and safety conscious guide. There is really nothing more you could ask from an Ocoee Outfitter. Highly reccomended!
I have been rafting before so I knew what to expect and it was still fun! Our guide Fast Fred was very entertaining. The other rafts with us had fun together as well. Cold water but who cares! Awesome lunch half way through the trip too, even shrimp! Go rafting!
This is my third time camping and rafting with O.A.R. the first two times were fun and exciting... This time we had Jon Hall as our guide, who has been with OAR for 6 years. Jon's experience spoke for itself as we received the one hell of a ride that we asked for. I also noticed that the other group group asked for a more relaxing trip and also received just that as they went around some of the spots that we found ourselves having an out of boat experience. The campground is pretty well maintained, our spot could have had less brush and trash in the fire pit. Other campers were friendly and kept to themselves in the large open area available.
If you have a group that wants crazy adventure or a nice, safe trip down the river, this is your outfitter. They are decidedly proud of their business and want to promote a positive family experience or give you an adrenaline rush to remember or both. While a grown man may feel strange putting his life in the hands of someone half his size, OAR's guides are excellent at what they do. They are genuinely concerned that everyone in the group have a good and safe time. If you want to be thrown out, they'll do it. If you want to stay in the raft the whole time, they'll do that too. Their method of going down the river is well orchestrated and never leaves you wondering, "what on earth have I done?" Ask for Rachel, she was very professional and a lot of fun.
We had a great time rafting with JJ today! She told us alot of great info during the trip and let us do alot of fun things, like riding the bull! We have been rafting with other outfitters but I definitely say OAR has been the best! We loved the full day trip and would definitely recommend it to everyone!
This is are annual family outing every August and once again we were not disappointed. OAR is a great company to experience your first rafting trip. The guides are super and you should have a blast.
