Beechcraft makes amazing airplanes. See some of their best examples from a large collection of staggerwings to a starship. They have several Bonanzas that are members of the earth rounder's society
the Beechcraft Museum is a must for anyone who enjoys aviation. The amount of Beechcraft history here is fantastic. Walter Beech would have been proud of what they have accomplished here. Currently they are remodeling one of the hangers so some of the artifacts were out of their displays but it was still a great stop to check out. The museum itself is in several hangers and there is a lot of walking but well worth it. It was interesting to see several of the first production models of several different Beech aircraft. Keep up the great efforts on the museum!
During our trip to Nashville we stopped at the Beechcraft Heritage Museum. We had a good time and would recommend this as a stop on your vacation. The starship was our favorite, would defiantly go again.
They have some very nice planes, This is self pace tour, you can stay as long as you like, they had some chairs in front of some plans where you could sit and relax dream about flying. The cost is $10 free parking
Many of us who live in the area grew up with this museum named the Staggerwing Museum. It was renamed the Beechcraft Heritage Museum in 2007. The museum is located next to the Tullahoma airport and is a Must See if you enjoy aviation. The museum has a large (over 24) collection of beautiful aircraft, memorabilia and artifacts including the classic "Big Red" probably the most recognized Staggerwing Beech in the world and parts from Ed Phillips' Travel Air model R "Mystery Ship".
We happened across this wonderful museum on the way from the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg to Chattanooga recently. One of us had jumped out of the Beechcraft King Air, so it was only natural to see what they had. We did not expect much in this out of the way place. Boy, were we surprised! This is a wonderful collection of vintage Beech aircraft. It includes a Travel Air #1 which was built by Lloyd Stearman, Walter Beech and Clyde Cessna. At real historical plane built by three of the biggest names in early aviation. The collection is in pristine shape, with a number of the planes airworthy and often flown. Each of the museum buildings is actually fancy hangers and there are doors to allow the aircraft to reach a runway. There is even a cut away plane where you can see all the workings of the controls, the structure of the wings, the wood frame and the fabric covering. They also have a Beech Starship! This dramatic pusher plane the company built in the 1990s. It still looks futuristic today! We have seen one of the few flying ones at an airport near our house.
This museum is a jewel. It is a bit hard to find and winter hours are a challenge so call first. There are a huge number of Beechcraft dating back to some of the first in the 1920s. Good area on avaition history as well. This is good for adults and famliies but not for very young kids. A unique muesum in a quiet relaxing spot.
Often, an aircraft museum that is on an airport can be someone's private collection that is maybe interesting, but often appears to be an attempt to qualify the aircraft as more than "toys". The Beechcraft Heritage Museum is nothing like that! It is a top of the line, complete collection, in a beautiful setting. From the beginnings, with the Travel Air, to the collections of Bonanzas, there is something for all. The Staggerwing in bare form, with all it's wood exposed, is amazing. The twin Beech hangar is full of great airplanes. The memorabilia, personal artifacts, aircraft plans, pictures, etc is more than you would expect. Plan enough time to see and absorb it all...or make it a two day stop.
The Beechcraft Heritage Museum in Tullahoma is an unexpected jewel. Wade McNabb, the curator, is exceptionally well versed in the Beechcraft history. The planes on display are very well presented and there is plenty of room to walk clear around most and photograph to your heart's content. If you are in the area, it's worth a visit.
An architectural and interior design gem, the main building for this museum is set in beautiful country side right next to the Tullahoma air strips. The many many aircraft, dating back to the 1920s, are beautifully restored and can be seen as art, even if you don't know the planes. The museum also tells the early story of American aviation, due to Beechcraft's center position, and honors many early women pilots, including the WWII women, in a very informative way. It is a delight, and the people there bend over backward to make you feel welcome.
My 12 year old son, now 14, went to the museum for one week to learn about flying and then at the end of the week, was able to go on a plane ride at the local airport. It was very interesting and special. I would highly recommend to anyone to take the time to go to this museum and look at all of the planes that they have, including one that was special built and never flown.
Being an airline pilot and having flown many of the Beech series aircraft while making my way thru my career, this was a great experience and the condition as well as the layout of this attraction is wonderful. it well worth stopping into visit.
You will enjoy this museum even if you have no idea what a Beech Staggerwing is or if there are no aircraft in the pattern. If you've ever flown in or owned a Beechcraft, you should see this place. The fly-ins are a great place to take a young family and are well done.
A wonderful collection of unique aircraft! The "Stagger Wings" are beautiful and are so well preserved you'd expect them all to roll out of the hanger and take to a climb out at any moment (and several of the airplanes are airworthy!) . Many other artifacts and pictures. I have to commend curators, staff and volunteers for well a supported and well funded museum! Don't miss the chance to visit and support this museum.Even if you are not interested in airplanes specifically these aircraft are true works of art.The signs around town are a little difficult to navigate but the museum is located on the south side of the airport.
Awesome aviation history in a town known for its contribution to aviation. Lots to do locally also. Next to my hometown Shelbyville if you happen to love walking horses. Jack Daniels distillery also close by. Plenty to see and do in this area.
