I have been going to movies at The Oldham Theater for the past 45 years. The outside of the theater hasn't changed a bit. The inside on the other hand has seen some nice upgrades. The balcony has been turned into a second screen. The sound system has been updated. The seating is now modern with folding arm rests. The only thing that still needs an upgrade on is the bathrooms. They still look the same as they did 45 years ago. The prices are a little cheaper than the big 8 screen theater 13 miles away. On Friday & Saturday they do have multiple showings of the bigger box office hits. Oh, one other thing that needs upgrading is offer the new 3D movies so I don't have to make that 13 mile drive to the "Big" name theater there.
Oldham is a good place to take the family for an evenings entertainment. The owners do a good job of making sure the theater is well maintained and operated. There is usually something for just about anyone to watch and the prices are decent for a theater.
The only upgrade this theater has done was to make the balcony into another theater! The seats are uncomfortable, but the price is right--$5 for adults, $4.50 for children and seniors! There is only one showing for both theaters and that is 7:00 p.m. each night. However, for nostalgia purposes, the exterior is just like every other small town America movie show with the ticket "bubble" office outside, the refreshments are great and reasonable, and on Friday/Saturday nights, you can hardly get a seat--it being the only theater for more than 20 miles. It is located on the square, and the traffic on those two nights is the most you will ever see around Winchester, TN. If you are camping--in tent or cabin--at Tims Ford State Park, stop over for a trip to the past.
We've been to the Oldham theater twice now. Its got a lot of charm. The seats are comfortable but its hard to see over the person in front of you (at least on the ground floor). Sound system is good. Lobby is tight. Didn't use the facilities so not sure about those. LOTS of teenagers. I prefer the more modern theaters but that marquee does draw you in. Prices on par with other theaters. Parking in the square can be a challenge but adds to the charm. Must see at least once.
Nice family oriented Theater in Downtown Winchester on the Square! Priced right...Get to see first rate movies...Love it!
This is a local treasure, preserved by the Rhoton family. They continue to give Franklin County first-run movies and the enjoyment of seeing them in the Oldham Theater, which I enjoyed as a child growing up in the 50s. The building has a beautiful marquee that has been lovingly restored. It is a truly grand venue for those who appreciate the preservation of wonderful home-town theaters.
This theater reminds you of the ones back before I was alive lol. Very old but update enough to be new. The people are friendly and they have security keeping the kids quite so everyone can enjoy the movie. The prices are low, although they it is up to $7 per person already but it still beats other places. Hope the price holds before they take that part of the theater away. I have been coming here since I was a child and it makes me feel like a kid again every time. Nice having a place that everyone can afford to go to even if you don't have much money.
This is a great place to go back in time. Clean, concessions are very reasonalbe, enjoyed it. This theater was much like I went to as a teenager ... I will go back
This old time theater on the square in Winchester show new releases. Worth the experience.
This is a bit of history still operating and Winchester is so lucky to have it. You can see a first run movie at a reasonable price. What a deal!!
This theater has lots of character and is well kept. It is small, the sound is not that great, but the prices are. The concession stand is very reasonable especially if you are taking children that will want their "own" everything. Refills are 1/2 price, we love that!
This is a great movie theater for the family. Very nostaglic and still affordable both for entrance as well as the food inside. My family of 4 can go for less than $40 including entrance, 4 drinks and 2 tubs of popcorn. The staff is wonderful and show appreciation for partaking of their theater. This is a must if in the Winchester area and definetely worth the drive from Manchester, Lynchburg, Tullahoma, and Huntsville. For kids, being in an old theater is definitely worth the experience.
I always prefer to see movies at the Oldham, instead of the multicinima in our town.T he Oldham feels like family & is cozy yet not as narrow as the multi. I recall when mgmnt announced it would not be showing some repugnant vampire movie, as Oldham tries to maintain itself as more of a family place. I applauded their stand on garbage. The seating is comfortable & service is friendly.
