We arrived a little before 5:00 on a Monday evening so we were not really expecting much .. just needed to eat. But boy were we happy with our decision. First, the atmosphere is great. It is a restaurant so bringing underage children is no problem (at least while we were there). You get the feel of the 50s blues when you walk in.The ribs are some, if not, the best Ive ever had -- and I have had a lot of ribs in my day. they were meaty and tasty, plus the price wasn't bad at all (in my opinion they were much better than Rendezvous' -- BB King's have wet sauce, but not too much sauce, while Rendezvous is a dry rub)We were surprised the live music started at 5:00 and the band was excellent -- I believe Memphis Joe is what they were called. The lead singer was a preacher with long hair and a fun beard. They played all kinds of music and what I liked the most was he would give a little history about the music of Memphis and about each song he played. Very, very entertaining. Wish we had stayed more than 1 1/2 hour but we felt we were monopolizing a table as the crowd started to come in after 6:00 -- there appear to be a small cover charge after 6:00Highly recommend this place and the ribs.
The drinks were well worth the price. We had appetizers, so can't really comment on the food to much, they were good for apps. The KingBees rocked (or blues'd) out. Smoke free was a blessing!
Chicken wings in a sticky barbecue sauce are great. My wife didn't like such a thing until she tried these. We bought six bottles to take home. And the music was too cool. A trio including Blind Mississippi Norris, wow, real blues with a jazzy guitar and bass. We went only for appetizers, we also got the corn jalapeño fritters. The portions were so large it was practically dinner. The store is next door. Good value.
Great music and food.... We had a great time there and I danced my butt off...which says a lot because I never dance...we went back each night and the live music was always great...
Food was fantastic and the music was great! We had a large party (9) but got a table quickly and our server did a really good job .. best brisket I've ever had and others in our party thought the ribs were amazing as well!
I can honstly say that me and my husband saw some of the most amazing live music on our visit. Great atmosphere, fantastic live music and defo check out when the Preston Shannon band are playing :)
We stopped in to grab a bite to eat while checking out Beale Street in Memphis. The food was good and the beer was cold but I have to say that after the excitement of live music in bar after bar on Broadway in Nashville (early on a Tuesday evening), we were disappointed to find no live music here at 7:00 in the evening the following night. The only music was a loop tape of a video of BB King playing his guitar. Too bad because it could have been so much more fun!
I have been here several times as a local to stop in for a drink and listen to music. It is a fun place. What I never knew is how good the food is here, especially the BBQ. Not sure how I missed it but do try the BBQ and you wont be disappointed. The upstairs seating is a great listening spot and as I saw on my last visit here it can be rented out for groups and they offer a special group buffet ( I assume with advance reservations.)
The music was excellent the atmosphere was great! Although we didn't eat here, we arrived later to hear the band play. Perfect ending to our day!
Stopped by Memphis on a Monday night...admittedly not the best night for night life. It was cold and rainy, but the lights were lit and some joints were still rocking.BB King's tends to have the best paid acts, so it's a must see when on Beale Street.Memphis Jones was performing and the band was tight and polished. He is a music historian and local preacher who covers the history of Memphis music in his performances. It was a great evening despite the expensive drinks and small crowds. If you're looking for authentic blues music, visit on a SUNDAY night. R & B tends to take over on other nights.
Was a great show with Jill Morozik and The Preston Shannon band (see picture), and great food and a few Bud's after
We went here a couple of times as a last port of call during our mid-week trip Memphis. On both occasions they had great bands on playing some good stuff and getting the punters up dancing. The bar staff were really friendly too and let us take a couple of glasses as souvenirs. Much better than its counterpart in NYC; recommended for your Beale Street night of misadvententure
The place is super cool. The people that work there are super nice and the entertainment was awesome! Prices on food and drinks were good, too!
The band was excellent and we loved the smoke free atmosphere. The food was average fried bar good. However we had great Lynchburg lemonades. Definitely a fun place to spend the evening.
We came here every night . We went to all the clubs and experienced great music but bb kings exceeded the others. The live bands were superior. We danced and had heavily poured cocktails and met cool people . Yeah they were tourists like us, but who else can booze until 2am on a Tuesday . Catch Preston if you can . The way they handle electric gibsons is outstanding . Their rendition of purple rain made me tear up. Incredible sound.
