If you have never visited a national cemetery you should see just one. Chattanooga's is nice and has the burial sites of Andrews raiders who stole the steam engine the General and a nice monument to them.

I am a cemetery freak anyway and to visit I site like this just takes my breath away. Need to fly over this one sometime, you can see the patterns in the rolling hills, but can't get the full affect from the ground.

This national cemetery is very beautiful, especially during holidays when flags are put at every marker. It is manicured to perfection and an impressive sight to see -- quite a remarkable place honoring our veterans and family members for their service.

I went there to seek out a distant family member who died during the Civil War. What a moving place! To see all those head stones and to find one from the family was special. I came armed with a name and grave site number and was directed to it immediately by staff in the office. They were helpful, respectful and kind. One of the workers was able to give me added battle info. Most interesting was the long list of names scrolling on a tv screen behind the office desk. They were the burials for the day.

Both my parents are buried here but for the tourist their is a great deal history in this National Cemetery. Andrews Raiders were buried here after the "Great Locomotive Chase" during the American Civil War and there are plaques and monuments erected for them. Additional Civil War history comes from the soldiers from both sides buried there as well as its proximity to several battles fought during the war. If you go please remember it is a burial place to those who server our country and take a moment to honor them when there.

Our first visit here was for the funeral of a neighbor so it was a personal time. As we drove to the chapel we noticed headstones from 1864 and wanted to know more about the history of this peaceful place. Our next visit was on Memorial Day for the torchlight walking tour hosted by the National Park Service historian. We were just getting transported back to 1864 and the founding of the cemetery when a violent thunderstorm sent us running for the safety of our cars!

A beautiful and tranquil National Cemetery. The Civil War buff would be interested because a number of Andrews Raiders - from the great locomotive chase, are buried there and there is a monument at the site.

Went to see the historical graves and a marker for the great locomotive chase. Very well-maintained Grounds. Interesting historical site.

The muffled drum's sad roll has beat The soldier's last tattoo; No more on Life's parade shall meet That brave and fallen few. On fame's eternal camping ground Their silent tents to spread, And glory guards, with solemn round The bivouac of the dead.

We decided to visit this cemetery right after visiting the zoo since it was essentially just a block or so away. One thing we noticed was all the headstones are all alike, very uniform which may be typical of veteran cemeteries. Grounds are well kept and the area is very quiet even though in the middle of Chattanooga. One thing I found interesting was that there are no soldiers from the army of the CSA. Only Union soldiers were allowed and later discovered that this was due to sentiment of people not wanting the Union dead having to be buried in the same location of Confederate dead.

Chattanooga National Cemetery is one of several National Cemeteries started due to the U.S. Civil War. It is a very calming place and a great place to reflect on those who've passed who served our country. It is not very far from downtown and worth the visit.

The people here were very efficient and very nice when we had my Mother-in-Law's funeral. The cemetery is very beautiful and very neatly kept.
