After absolving our fears of plunging into frigid water 30 ft below from a bridge with a sign that boldly states "Only 4 People On Bridge at a time", we walked across the bridge. It was fun. It swayed to the left and to the right. And it went up slightly and down slightly. And at the end of the bridge, you arrive inside the gated entrance to a wilderness resort/retreat. Then, your kids say "Look Daddy, a Bear!" And you calm yourself and your children and approach the friendly carved wooden waving statue and take pictures of your family or silly selfies. You know... that kind of thing. After that fun, and reading the no trespassing signs and deciding to heed the posted advisories, it was time to go back across the bridge. Double fun!Parking is limited. Go do it. Memories created. And make silly photos with the bear.

Swinging bridge in excellent shape. In order to get to it, you have to cross a very busy road. That was scary! At the far end of the bridge you exited into someone's driveway/backyard.

If you're nearby this is a fun little attraction to hit that's free! We walked back and forth across the swinging bridge a few times. The kids liked it. I heard the restaurant right there is good with fresh food, too.

We love finding places that the ordinary traveler wouldn't find. This certainly met that description! We parked at the Kinzel Springs Century 21 office and crossed the road. The entire family loved this unique experience!

I love this bridge. But be careful of the fast traffic. I stood and watched the water flow until I felt like I was moving with the water. One early morning I watched a young black bear in the water.

Awesome bridge! Follow tips for directions to residential area off Cameron Road, or another option is to park directly across the road at Kinzel Spring Century 21 (on Lamar Alexander Parkway...and they have a lovely pond & waterfall in back). Only downside to the "direct" option is you must watch traffic carefully before crossing. Fun to walk across this cool bridge, and you may see tubers below.

Townsend, Tennessee has no less than two swinging bridges. The Dark Island one is easy to find being near town and the one you float under on most Little river tube floats. This one is not so easy to find. One end is on the private property of a retreat and the other end is on Hwy. 321 hidden mostly behind bushes. It is across the street from the Kinsel Springs realty office and their parking lot is the only safe place to park. The you take you chances crossing Hwy. 321 to get to it. Like all swinging bridges, it is fun to cross and finding it can be much like a scavenger hunt. If you are visiting Townsend, which I do frequently for the quiet solitude and fun river it offers, check out both.

Fun to walk across . Not much on the other side. Seems strong enough to walk over. The water is shallow ok for a few photos.

If you are a photographer take some time to visit this bridge in the early morning. The fog in the fall is most engaging.

Simply, a swinging bridge. A little difficult to find. Walk across and back, that's it. Got a couple nice photos. Peaceful setting over the river.

this is a cute little spot by the river in Townsend it is a very private place not many people around

Stopped here looking for a geocache across the bridge.New home owners in the house on the other side seem to be a little inquisitive & skeptical, the owners didn't know anything about geocaching. It was fun to watchfishermen down in the creek below fishing. There's a picnic table on the other side for a quick lunch too. This its a fun road side atraction spot!

I'm not sure why this bridge is here, but it's fun to walk across. The kids loved it, but you just walk across and walk back, nothing more?

This is one of our favorite places to take guests. First of all--it's free. It provides the best view of the river--great photo shoot too.

This bridge has been here as long as I can remember, there was a flood that nearly destroyed. It is fun for kids and you can teach them about the physics of how the bridge works.
