The Stones River Greenway is impressive! It is a paved path that is wide enough for many to use. It is great for walking, jogging, cycling, etc. The path is marked with mile markers and It follows Stones River and Lytle Creek. Several of the trailheads have playgrounds and pavilions. There are several Civil War historical interests along the path. I think the greenway is well maintained and safe. If you are interested, the Stones River National Battlefield is very close to many of the trailheads and another great place to explore.
The Stone River Greenway is a great place to ride a bike either for exercise or just for fun. there are some nice places to stop and have a picnic.
The greenway is a good location to run, walk, or bike in Murfreesboro. It has many access points- the most popular are at Old Fort Park (the greenway actually goes through the park) and Thompson Lane. The greenway is safe and flat. Police do regularly monitor the greenway; however there are a few stretches that are a little remote. It is not open at night. The Greenway sits on the Stones River flood zone so it can flood from time-to-time. It generally should be open unless there has been significant rainfall.
This is local for us and we use it often. Lots of scenic areas along the river and it takes you from housing and shopping areas to downtown Murfreesboro. You may bring your dog(s) on a leash and let them take a dip in the river or visit the Bark Park which is on the trail.
One of the better walking trails I've been on. We were just visiting and are not that familiar with the area, but the portion we did walk was beautiful and well planned out. Great place for a relaxing/peaceful walk after shopping all day. We plan to visit this area often and will certainly be returning!
Beautiful walk along the river. The many trailheads make it easy to choose different routes and distances.
Get away from the noise and traffic. Go for a good walk! The Stones River Greenway is a network for trails through Murfreesboro roughly following the Stones River. There are trailheads with bathrooms every few miles. Some trailheads have playgrounds. I love the view of the river just down the trail from the Braxton Bragg Trailhead. The Manson Pike Trailhead is near a man-made waterfall. Very nice.
Wonderful way to get in some miles on the bike and see some country. We rode from downtown all the way to Priest Dam and back. It is not all flat as there are a few ups and downs on the route. It is also a good place to see some birds along the pathway.
I like walking on the greenway it is a nice place to walk. I like that i can take my dog with me. Sometime i like going to the greenway by my self.
This is great trail to take a walk, jog, run or bike. It seems like one of the only trails in Murfreesboro. In summer if looks like it can be a good place to take the kids to wade in the water. Good trail, and loved walking here when I was in Murfreesboro.
The Greenway is a great place to walk and just about the only option in Murfreesboro since there are no lakes, but if it's not a day where there are a lot of walkers it can be kind of spooky. I wouldn't walk it by myself or late in the day. Might be just me but I feel kind of trapped in there at times and some of the entry points where you park your car are kind of deserted, too.
I started at the Broad Street trailhead, in the same parking lot as the 84 Lumber company, and ran south just a little past the Cason trailhead. The trail is paved. There were parks along the way with clearly visible water fountains (at Cason COLD water) and restrooms, which are always welcome. There were a couple of sections that could be better marked- an arrow with "Fortress Rosecrans" and another with "Overall Street" at the wooden bridge that splits into a Y and clear marking at Old Fort park for where the trail drops and resumes would have been good. But, it was a very pleasant run. I live in Peachtree City, GA, and we have 90+ miles of multi-use paths through the city similar to the Greenway. We share with golf carts, but the Greenway prohibits motor vehicles, which is not such a bad thing. The point is I know paved paths, and Murfreesboro has a system while short in comparison are pleasant- wide and winding. Placards are posted along the way to explain wildlife, the railroad, and other things. The parks have great play equipment and pavilions. Biking, walking, and running would all be enjoyable.
Nice paved trail that runs along the Stones River for most of the trail. Partially shaded and at night, before it gets too dark, you can see plenty of wildlife coming out to eat. The only setback about the trail, of you're riding a bike, is there are a few places where tree roots are beginning to take shape under the trail-causing severe bumps. You need to keep an eye out or risk blowing a tire.
The greenway is excellent. We ride bikes here often. The roads are paved and wide. The river is in view for a large portion. There's a dog park. Smooth for most of the park - there are just a few sections of tree roots and where the road has broken up some. We usually start at Cannonsburg Village. There's a train track that you go over- lots of stuff to look at during the ride. There is only car traffic at Old Fort and we're comfortable with our 12yr old navigating thru that area. There's also a road to cross if you do the loop around the little pond near the business area. The wind is crazy over here sometimes. It's weird how the wind is just in that area. The original greenway has plenty of shade too. The bridges are wide as well- there's enough room to keep riding unless there's several people at the same time. The incline on the bridges are a bit of a challenge but it's good to push yourself. The new area will add to your ride, but there is no shade out there. It gets hot and there's a good stretch that's pretty boring. Oh, there's a convenience store and a Mexican restaurant that's right on the original trail so we stop sometimes. Sit outside at the restaurant and you can keep an eye on your bikes. We do 12-13 miles and it makes for a great morning/afternoon.
My wife and I visited Murfreesboro for a baseball tournament, and in our spare time, we hiked this wonderful trail system. I salute the folks who planned this trail system. It is one of the best, and should be a model for any city
