Easy tour by car and has flat walking trails available. Staff is very helpful. The guided tour has interesting stops and tells the story of the soldiers who fought and died there.
I drove though the battle field and this was across the street from where you exit. Well maintained and full of history. Great spot for a photographer. A reminder of how many people of lost their lives for our country.
It always takes my breath away to witness the tributes given to Americans in uniform, as they well deserve. This is especially true in a cemetery designed and maintained with such respect. It is also a wonderful place to walk around, reflect on the history of these events, and soak in the hallowed and peaceful surroundings.
Very well kept historical cemetery. It was nice to walk around and learn about everything. Be careful crossing the street to get to the cemetery from the museum.
This National Cemetery is the final resting place for Union soldiers. No southern soldiers are buried here. This is a very solemn place and is a beautiful place to visit.
Well taken care of and located across from the battlefield, it is pretty typical for a Civil War cemetery.
This cemetery is exceptionally well maintained. Verses from the famous poem "the Biouvac of the Dead" are posted along the drive in the middle of the burial grounds, which helps drive home the solemness of the site. Just outside the cemetery is the Hazen's Brigade Monument, the oldest Civil War monument in the U.S., having been erected in 1863. It is well worth seeing, as is the cemetery itself.
It is amazing how many men died here in such a short amount of time, fighting for the side they believed in. Looking over all of the grave makers of the union soldiers (the Confederate soldiers were buried elsewhere) can almost bring you to tears when you think about the thousands who died here in one of the fiercest battles of the civil war. While the information inside the office heavily favors the union side of the story, it is still a good place to take children for an education on our nation's history.
I love seening this did not kno it was here tell i was walking on the greenway i see alot by walking love it here.
Very well kept grounds and directly across the street National Battlefield. Great place for field day or just time alone. Very respectful place to just appreciate those who gave all.
I have been to many of the major U.S. cemeteries in the country including Arlington and the area at Little Big Horn. The Stones River National Cemetery has its own feel, and though it is near businesses on the other side of the railroad track, the fact that it is beside the railroad tracks they fought for is haunting. It is very interesting to meander around the cemetery and see the various markers. Also, you can see the tradition of people leaving Pennies on markers as a sign of respect.
A well maintained cemetery with cool grave markers and monuments. An excellent visit to ponder the history of war in America.
It was well taken care of, but not much to satisfy an 8 and 10 year old. Lots of room to run though.
Very informative program given by the Ranger on duty. Very clean and well maintained. Closeness to actual battlefield also helpful.
Tony and I went to the Stone River National Cemetery located across the street from the Visitors Center. It is very nice place to walk around and enjoy the quietness and feel their lost souls. Over 3,000 soldiers both Confederate and Union lost their lives here and are buried. In the visitors center you can find where certain family members may be buried.Helps you locate them easier than wondering around looking. But if you prefer to do it that way, it is nice too!
