If you are interested in the history of the area this place has it. It's not real well organized but it's a great place to poke around and spend some time.
I have visited the BV Heritage museum several times over the years, and always enjoy the experience immensely. There is so much to see here! Many of the items were donated by local residents, and at times, it feels a little like walking through someone's densely filled attic, but items are well-labled and organized, there are a kazillion photos, and you can spend hours and not see it all, should you have the desire. Of particular note, the antique clothing, BV's telephone switchboard, tons of photos from 1800's forward of BV's daily life, note-worthy happenings (like train wrecks), etc. I have also been there when the upstairs space was filled with a visiting exhibit, so inquire about this. Try to visit when the model train exhibit is open and running (it is operated by a local train club, I believe). Amazing, extensive models representing the BV area as it was in the heyday of train travel. A must-see for any model train fan, especially kids. Last reason to visit? Simply to add financial support to this hometown gem, or to see the historic building. Don't forget to look up at the unique and lovely weathervane on top...
This was one of the best little museums we've seen. Nearly every item had a small card beside it telling us what the item was, how it was used, and where it came from. There is room after room of exhibits, and just when you think you've seen it all, you turn another corner and voila! Lots of history on mining, of course, but many other topics, too, including the school room and exhibits related to school such as art, music, and sports. A great exhibit on kayaking, and many photographs.
