gates of lodore trail

First as you travel from east to west don't take the first turn off, take the second and save yourself 4 miles of gravel washboard road. The second turn is still 3 miles of washboard, but at the end you are rewarded with a grand view of the Green River and the canyon "gates". The short hike up the wall to see the gates up close is worth the trip. We brought lunch and enjoyed watching the floaters. Don't bother to continue around the path; when it says it is not a round trip it means it. If you continue on what appears like the path you end up scrambling down and really don't see anything special; oh well, there are some big rocks to wonder around if you have kids that like that sort of thing, but watch for snakes.
