We drove up to the trail from Denver and it took us about an hour to drive up the mountain. We hiked from the upper parking lot to the falls which took us about 30 min. It was an easy hike. The falls weren't anything spectacular but it is a pretty hike.
We went to Maxwell Falls one morning and took our dog as well. The hike was easy to moderate and offered pretty views towards the top of the trail. However, I was expecting to see more water and the trail only offered very small "falls" that were far from impressive. Overall, it was an alright trail but we won't be back.
Started at the lower falls parking... Nice 4.5 mile loop... Nothing too difficult but a very enjoyable path up and down the mountain, following the river. We did the cliff rock loop which made it a bit longer, but even more scenic.
Can get a bit crowded and be prepared for many hikers to stop and ask you where the falls are. They are not steep or big, but still pretty. The falls cascade over about a 1/2 mile stretch and vary with strength depending on the time of year, rainfall, and snow melt. There are 3 main trails (a loop, an upper trail head, and lower trail head) that are not marked very well, but there are maps at both parking areas. Some parts of the trail can get a little technical, especially if you plan to climb down to the base of the falls. The rocks can get quite slick, kids and beginners should stick to the trail.
Nice little network of trails. Lower falls lot to falls a moderate climb maybe 5 miles round trip, Upper falls lot much flatter and about a mile..I like to go early. It can be a fairly peaceful at least on the way in. Later in the morning it can get a bit crowded as do many of the hiking areas. The falls are a series of cascades, The strength varies very dependent on rain and snow run off.
Cute little waterfall. Nice network of trails. Mostly shady trails to keep you cool own hot summer days.
We took the short trail, only .9 miles, and it was good that we did because it started thundering and raining as we were walking out. The trail was pretty easy, but if you are from a lower elevation, it is a lttle tough to acclimate even on fairly flat terrain. The falls were very pretty. Not spectacular, but very pretty. The trail is easy to access from the parking area. One thing that was not good was that the trails were not marked, and there were a couple of times that there was a choice on which way to go. It looked like maybe someone took the signs down. Anyway, it was beautiful scenery with lots of rock formations. We'll do the longer route on another day.
I joined friends for a 4 hour leisurely hike to Maxwell Falls (actually a cascade) and nearby cliff overlook. The trail head (turnout on left side of road) is easy to find on the South Brook Forest Road south of Evergreen. There is parking for perhaps a dozen cars. A pit toilet is available across the street from the parking area. The trail is well maintained and rises near 800' to the cliff overlook. There are several signs along the way but not all in good shape, but rather posts with hand written arrows and names. There are enough hikers every day that it would be difficult to get lost. We went in late May and there was still ice in the creek bed, but the trail was dry. There are plenty of places to picnic and relax along the creek and cliff and you bring your dog on a leash, of course. If you are looking for a good day hike close to Denver this is one I recommend.
